Is my DD ready for potty training?

Hi
For a couple of months now my DD (2 in a week) has been running off into another room to poo and shouting 'bye bye' at us if we go near her and just says 'uh oh' when she does a wee.

We have a potty but she seems to get stage fright when I put her on there!
Whenever its bathtime she always goes in there (standing up and looking at her wee fascinated :o) so she seems aware of it all but no interest in the potty or loo.
I was thinking of putting her in pants and that way when she does a wee she will be uncomfortable and might want to use the potty but I'm not sure if thats a big no no!
Any advice would be fab thank you :)

I would say no if she won't sit on a potty or loo. She has some awareness of her body functions, but she's still very young and probably she hasn't made the link yet between what she does and where it should go. It will be easier in the warmer weather when she can run around pantless and washing dries more easily!

I would say she's probably ready to start a sort of warm up phase - i.e. get her a couple of those story books about using the potty and read them to her regularly. Every time you change her nappy talk to her about how her wee and poo will go in the potty soon, allow her some time at home without pants on and a potty nearby, get her to sit once or twice a day on the potty (e.g. for a couple of minutes before her bath) and maybe let her choose a story for you to read to her while she sits there, hold the potty under her when she stands up and wees in the bath and have a game about catching it and maybe give her a sticker or choc button if you do catch that wee in the potty. After a couple of weeks of this sort of thing then maybe she will be ready to choose some pants and go for it. Having trained 3 children now (all fairly easily at ages 2.3, 22 months and just turned 2) I really do think that the key thing before you start training is that they have a VERY clear idea of what is going to be expected of them and also have a bit of time to assimilate and consider it before you actually make swap to pants.

Thank you that's really helpful especially the catching the wee in the bath bit - much better than whipping her out and plonking her on the potty which is what I've been doing Blush
I will talk to her more about it all as well she understands alot more than I give her credit for scary how fast they grow up !!!!! :)
