DS (3.11) has just been potty trained - so far (3 weeks in) he's been doing brilliantly, both at home and nursery, with only a couple of accidents. The last two mornings though he has been coming in to our bedroom in his nappy announcing he needs a wee. Whilst we don't want to discourage this, this morning it was at 5.19am!!! Then he doesn't go back to sleep and reluctantly stays in his room often amid moaning and loud protests. I'm thinking of not giving him any drink after say 4pm, unless he specifically asks, and making sure he is hydrated plenty during the early part of the day. Does anyone have any ideas? As I said we don't want to discourage his use of the potty but we can't have him being exhausted during the day either, especially as he no longer naps.

Could you put him in pull-ups, so that he can take himself to the loo, or use a potty? Start some sort of incentive scheme to reward him for being independent and also returning to his room to play quietly if not going back to sleep? I think you could encourage a lot more independence if he is shown what to do, put in place appropriate safety items like stair gates, nightlights etc, and then there will be no need for him to wake you unless he has been sick or something like that.

You could limit his drinks a bit, but remember that a kid his age will be sleeping 10 hours plus, I'm not sure I could last that long without a wee!
