Yesterday was day one of potty training. DD is 2.1 so still quite young. We managed two wees in the potty and LOTS of accidents. She found it quite traumatic and got upset the two times when I emptied the potty.

She seemed quite irritable at bed time, the she woke screaming in the middle of the night and screamed on and off for about and hour. I mean really screaming LOUD.

Now I feel really guilty as I think I may have put too much pressure on her. I think I should ditch it and try again in sixth months.

Am I giving in too easily. I don't want to cause her to be distressed.

She seemed excited about wearing pants and using the potty in the morning.

I really don't know what to do for the best.

I think you could stop, as DD is so distressed, it shouldn't be that severe. She was excited about wearing pants and everything until she realised what using the potty entailed which frightened her; I guess if she hasn't felt what it's like to have wee running down her legs before (due to the super absorbency of nappies) it would be weird to her. You would be better leaving it until the warm weather anyway.

If you wanted to keep the potty around you could let her sit on it when she chooses, but use nappies in between until she gets used to the whole process, it can be difficult if they haven't been used to sitting on the potty for a long time before you do the pants no nappies intensive training.

Thanks girly. We are going to wait until summer. Hopefully she will forget about yesterday over the next few months. I'll try putting her on the potty at bath time so that it's not so alien to her. We had played with the potty a bit and watched some clips on YouTube, but she hadn't really made the connection.

She actually asked for her nappy this morning.
