Potty training DC2 and completely forgotten "how" to do it?!!

DC1 was the same age (ie, 2.9 months) as DC2 and he seemed to sail through it but had already done a wee in the potty before we decided to "go for it".

DC2 more interested in the loo with padded seat that i've bought than the potty but i'm sure the potty is going to be easier for her to get to use.

Sunday is D-Day and i'm going straight to knickers (though i need to buy more - 7 won't be enough!!!) rather than pull ups. Have got a ton of Xmas chocolate to use as bribery as soon as she's done something in the potty but what else do i need to remember (have read GF's book but never really needed it first time round).

I think i've got a mental block from first time round as i really hate potty training but will be so relieved once she's out of nappies!!
tips / advice / hints all gratefully received Smile

A disclaimer to start with - I'm just in the middle of training DS1 so, given my relative inexperience my views shouldn't count for much! A lot of this is what I've read and been told though, so perhaps you will find some of it useful.

I was told that if DS wanted to skip the potty and go straight to the toilet seat, then to do that as it can be just another hurdle to get them to make the transition from potty to toilet. I would offer the padded seat and see how she gets on...so to speak! If she actually isn't comfortable with it, then show her the potty. My DS fluctuated between wanting the seat/potty and now seems to have settled (thankfully) on the toilet seat, rather than the potty. That suits me just fine...less cleaning. I offered both though.

I have GF's book, but haven't really found it helpful. Full of useless information like 'by day 2 you should know what your child's schedule is like' (to paraphrase)...er, um, no. He doesn't poo/wee to a schedule. He does it whenever he needs to.

I did find info on the web which i have implemented, like focussing more on asking them to tell you when they need to go & only taking them when they indicate (verbally or by obviously needing to go or starting to go) rather than every 20-30 minutes or so as som eguides suggest.

Then the obvious stuff, like not forcing them to sit, not using pull ups, not reverting to nappies once started in pants.

Good luck!

BlackSwan thanks for your reply. Started yesterday and more successes than accidents!! Only wees so far but fingers crossed and she's telling me when she wants to go as well as going when i ask her to which is good.

Also it looks like she'll bypass the potty and go straight to the loo as she loves her padded seat so much (i told her it was a special present and she's fallen for it!) and wants to use it all the time.
Hope training going well for you too! Smile
