DS, 2.10 and seemingly nowhere near ready for potty training...

...argh!! I feel like we are really behind here, not least because he is so tall for his age and I am sure I'm getting paranoid loads of judgy looks from other parents.

We have a couple of potties at home. He will sit on them fully clothed if asked, but never without a nappy on. He has never sat on one with a bare bottom.

He hates having his nappy changed, even when he has done a poo. He is miles away from being dry at night.

I talk about how soon he will be doing poos and wees in the potty, as he won't be wearing a nappy and so will need to use the potty. We let him see us on the loo and explain that we use it because we don't wear a nappy and soon it will be the same for him, etc, etc.

I've tried a reward chart where he gets a sticker each time he sits on it, which is all well and good but again he only sits on it fully clothed. This was a while ago now - a good month +. I have sort of given up for now, as he seems so utterly uninterested.

I know 2.10 isn't that late and that boys can be 3 before they train, but I feel like we are so far away from it...! That we're being left behind snd that everyone else with similar-aged DC has it well and truly nailed by now.

Anyone else been in this boat or have any advice on how we can get him more interested in the whole concept?

DS2 is 3 today and he is nowhere near potty trained. He sits on the potty once in a blue moon. We got a seat for the toilet and he occasionally sits on there.

So you aren't alone. But DS1 was about 3.4 when he finally cracked it.

I think you should try the bare bum method. Take nappy off when he is at home. Let him chose some pants. My DS never used a potty, would only go on the toilet. I used to take him every hour and a half at the start and then increase it and then hoping he would ask or take himself.
I think pull ups confuse them at the start.
Would not worry about being dry at night yet. Thats done to a hormone I think

Thanks both of you.

coccyx - did you use a training seat on the loo? It could be that he just doesn't 'get' what the potty's for.
