DD is 3 years 2 months. We have tried toilet training on various occasions with no success. Yesterday we started again. 5 accidents, no success. Today with my mum she stayed dry all day but we think held it in as she wet herself when home. Tomorrow is nursery so I'm tempted to send her in pants to see how she gets on and then stick her on the toilet the moment we get home.

Am I deluding myself this is some sort of progress?

Completely dry at nursery, came home and I put her on the toilet - nothing - reminded her another couple of times, directly after the last reminder she wet herself. She did not like it and knew what she should have done, but she still didn't.

This is day 3, no success, is it worth continuing?

Personally i would give it a bit longer Smile

I've just come on here looking for thoughts on this too. Have just started potty training (I'd prefer it to be toilet training but he's scared he'll fall down it but is too big for the seat) my 3.2 yr old and not feeling like I'm making much progress.

The main problem with him is that he doesn't wee! He went from 9am-11.45 today without weeing! I asked him several times if he needed to wee and he just got more and more annoyed with me asking. We went out for about half an hour and when we got back I gave him juice, told him to stay near the potty, asked if he needed to go. He said no then wet himself within a minute!

My ds1 came out of nappies at 3 and 'got it' straight away. Not one single accident and took himself off to the toilet from day one. So I didn't expect this. I thought leaving it till now would mean he is more than ready but he doesn't seem to know when he's going to wee.

Yesterday he did 2 wees in potty when prompted by me and 1 accident. Today we've had 1 accident and that's it. He's snoozing at the moment with a nappy on so will be interesting to see how wet it is.

Thank you. Nice to get some input.

Your son sounds very similar to my daughter.

More accidents, then success before bed, poo and pee in the potty. Made my day. We made a huge fuss of her, so we'll see what tomorrow brings.

we were the same! I was going slightly mad when at 6.30 pm he hadn't wee'd since he got up from his nap at 3.45 then he did 2 wees on the potty. He was quite delighted and we made a big fuss too.

I'm not the most patient person in the world so I hope it doesn't take long!

I thought leaving it till 3 would make it an easy process too, apparently not! In hindsight nursery asked us to put her in pullups for nursery as she was asking to go to the toilet and I think this was our major mistake, she has been very happy to be in, her eyes, big girl pants but then treat them like a nappy.

Here's hoping for some more success today.

I hate pull ups and so did nurseries my chidren went to. Not sure why she needs them for nursery. If she asks for toilet then I assume they take her??
Big girl pants all the way for me

Yes, but she doesn't tend to ask, just likes the toilet trips her friends are going on, likes flushing the toilet etc. I wish now we had never gone down the pullup line.

Same performance as yesterday. Dry at nursery, refused to go to the toilet/potty at home and wet herself. Have just made her take off wet things herself, clean herself up and put clothes in the machine. Hopefully when she realises it's hard work she will start using the toilet.

One week from starting and we're seeing some success. She hasn't wet herself at all this weekend, although lovely pooey pants yesterday - nice! At long last I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Very proud of her :)

Glad she's making progress. My ds has got it too. Even doing poos on the potty. We've moved the potty into the bathroom & he is making it there every time. He won't even try to sit on the toilet though.

agora1 · 31/10/2011 19:45

DD is using the toilet but I think not pooing until she absolutely has to.

It just wouldn't be fun if they got every aspect easily Wink

Meant to say well done on DS progress - that's fantastic.

She heard me up at 6am with her sister, came down to join us and asked to do a pee pee. She often is dry overnight so I'm not hugely surprised. I'll not stop putting her in pullups quite yet though.

caught her trying to poo behind a chair earlier. Quickly whipped her knickers off, stuck her on the toilet and made a huge fuss of her. Fingers crossed that it might help.

sounds like she's almost there. I persuaded ds to sit onthe toilet yesterday after convincing him I wouldn't let him fall down it. After a couple of attempts he was doing it himself but still wanted me in the room.

I think the praise and reasoning and explanations work better now they are a bit older so that should help them get it quicker.

agora1 · 05/11/2011 15:37

Fantastic!

DD is now pooing in the toilet :). Next stage is to buy a protective cover for the mattress and get rid of the pullups once and for all.
