Hi,

My DS is 2yrs 10mths and we have been potty training for the last 6 or 7 weeks. He was doing really well - at least when I was putting him on the potty/toilet every couple of hours but in the last week, I decided to stop forcing him to go as I thought he needed to learn when he should go instead. Unfortunately this isn't going very well - he justs wees in his pants now (a minute after I've asked him if he needs to go) and doesn't really seem to care. He doesn't get upset or apologetic. He just says "I've done a wee". I'm not quite sure how to handle it? I've tried just changing him and saying "Nevermind, try again next time". I've tried saying "We don't wee on the floor, we wee on the potty/toilet". And unfortunately this morning I got slightly frustrated with him (I know this was wrong, however, it was the 3rd wee I had to clean up!).

I ask him if he needs to go every hour or so and he says no without even thinking about it. However, he goes to nursery every Tuesday and apparently asks when he needs to go - so I know he is capable of doing it!

As for poos - he waits until he has his nappy on at naptimes and bedtime before he goes. We sit him on the toilet before he goes to bed for 5 minutes but then poos in his nappy 2 mins later.

I don't want to give up but do you think he is ready? I don't want to waste my time and push him into doing it before he is ready.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

I am in a similar predicament myself and have been taking my DS1 to the toilet for nearly 4 months now! Last week he started telling me when he needed the toilet - I nearly fainted and was feeling pretty victorious - then a few days later he just stopped saying. Its soooo frustrating and I do feel your pain but we are just keeping going with it in the vain hope it will click soon. Maybe try telling him that if he tells mummy when he needs the toilet he will get a small treat - it could work! He is still quite young though. My DS1 is 4 in July so thats why we are persevering! Good luck. Wish I could be more help. x

I feel your pain ladies. My DD has gone from asking to go (wees and poos)to now just weeing randomly wherever and even pooing in the bloody bath!! I have tried rewards, "now you are a big girl", calm, cross and everything in between. She is reliably potty trained on a nursery day and a nana day - grrrr. No help to you - sorry!

oooh life's too short, back in nappies and try again in three months!

Take a step back put him in nappies for a couple of months and then try again. This is what DD was like she did eventually get it until she got a bout of constipation so it has all gone tits up.
