Scared. Think she's ready but....

I just don't know where to start!

Georgia is 2 years and 3 months. Since she was 22 months we've been taking her to the loo with us and she's been in pull ups and occasionally in knickers or no bottoms while in the house. She sits on the potty and asks to go to the toilet sometimes and has done 1 wee on the toilet a while ago but I think it was a fluke. This past 2 months she's started telling us about 30 seconds prior to doing a poo that she's pooing then she will lie down on the floor and say "pood, discusting!" and is so cooperative and this past 2 days she started doing the same with wee wees. (we've gone through a whole pack of 22 nappies in 2 days!)

My inlaws and my partner think she's ready now but I don't know what to do!?! She is my only child and I've never really seen other people doing it. I've read all the stuff on how to know they are ready and how to prepare them but I can't really find anything on what to do once they are prepared and are ready.

I'm so confused! She has always been a delite when doing new things like weaning and going into her own room and sleeping etc but potty training is just so daunting!

Help!

Lots of good signs of readiness there I think - your DD seems to have awareness before she poos, and possibly wees too.

I'm no expert, but just coming out the other side of potty training with DD who is a month or so older than yours. With the warm weather on my side I had DD completely bare bummed around the house for about the first week, so she could really get the hang of it. Then we moved on to to knickers, now she's fully dressed! She now tells me when she needs to go, as she does still need help with her clothes. We have had a few accidents along the way, but that's par for the course.

I'd say go for it - the worse that can happen is an increase in laundry...

Oh, and we got 'I want my potty', a picture book, which DD really enjoyed and also helped get the point home.

Just put her in knickers. There will be accidents (but don't make to big a fuss out of them), but she'll learn the sensation of wetness (which she can't in disposable nappies). Offer her the potty regularly and give her lots of praise when she does one in there.

We had about 6 weeks in knickers with 1-2 accidents per day (at home and nursery) but now she's been dry during the day for over a week, including daytime sleeps.

The "I want my potty" book is great, too - although I wonder whether it made accidents seem too ok.

Thanks. I think it's more about me not being ready! This weekend when I've got more time I will bite the bullet and see how we get on!

I would go for it as she seems ready, i think the idea of it can be more daunting than just going for it. I was quite anxious about training my ds as he is my first so like you say you dont know exactly what to do or how to go about it, so i put it off quite a while (was mainly worried about going out the house without nappies) then i just thought have got to do it at some time, so just put him in pants and went about our normal daily routines going out etc and it has actually been fine, very little problem with it really.
Practise her with it more at home maybe then just go for it, it seems as though she would be okay
I went and got all the potty training stuff like waterproof cover for buggy, travel potty etc to make myself feel prepared for going for it, but actually did not so far end up needing to use those at all
Good luck
