Potty training - refuses to poo in potty or toilet

Help! My dd who is 2 and 3/4 refuses to do a poo anywhere but in her nighttime nappy. I have tried coaxing, treats, star charts, sitting on the potty, loo, with and without me in the room. I've taken her with me and her big brother to the loo when we have a poo so she can see what we're doing. I've shown her the poo down the toilet as well as in her nappy so she can see what it is and that it's not scary. I am at my wit's end over this.

We (and her nursery) put a nappy on her for her lunchtime 1 hour nap and she occasionally does a poo in it then, but it's mostly just before bedtime when she's just had her night time nappy put on.

Any suggestions Mners please????

How about trying to get her to wear the nappy and sit on the potty to do the poo in the nappy. Do it a few times so she is happy then try loosening the nappy, gradually keep loosening it until you can actually undo it when she is sitting on the potty and has pooed! Then try loosening it when she is on the potty before she has pooed, eventually you should be able to just put it in the potty and she does it on top! Then you can remove it altogether, although a friend who did this (or something similar) did used to put some toilet paper (just a bit) into the potty first and call it a 'nappy', but not until she had gone through the process of easing her out of it first!

Does she wee in the loo?

Is she happy just sitting on it, maybe to watch some telly (if you allow it in the same room as the TV)?

I would imagine it will just take a bit of time and she will ease out of it. Maybe give the star chart a rest and start it up again in a few weeks with a totally new incentive.

If you do make any progress, make lots of fuss of her as a big girl etc.

Maybe asking her to choose her own treat (suggesting a few things) might work!

I am sure you will get there.

Good luck.

Hi Italian, thanks so much for your detailed answer, will defo try the nappy on the potty. She is very happy to wee in the loo and has even started telling me when she needs a wee.

Will keep you updated on this method tonight. And, yep we do have a potty in the living room but tbh, she prefers weeing in the loo whereas my boy hated the loo and loved the potty - i think girls are just a bit fussier!!

thanks so much for your response, will defo try it as I am tearing my hair out and fear she'll be doing this for another year!

x
