DS2 (2.8) doing well with wees but currently will only poo in a nappy. I'm guessing I should just go with it, right? Or might leaving it cause more problems in the long run?

Experience? TIA Grin

nice name Grin

no advice here, just marking my place cause dd the same and want to read responses.

wheresmytractor · 05/04/2011 22:11

No advice either im afraid, just wanting to hear any that comes along like tyaca! My son is 3.2, has been urine trained for 3 months but will NOT poo on the potty Confused I have tried asking, pleading, praise, long chats about where poo's go, chocolate buttons and now confiscating toys. He does his in his pants (im reluctant to give him a nappy to poo in and he is reluctant to wear one) At the end of my bloody tether with it - JUST SHIT ON THE POTTY!!!!!!!! Angry
Sorry for hijacking your thread, look forward to anyone to shine a light on our poo problems

Try reading 'Poo goes to Pooland'. It's a story you can download and print off (for free) and has worked for everyone I've recommended it to. Just search for it here and you should find a link.

Here's the link for 'Poo Goes to Pooland'.

Joining! Dd 3 is the same, I am also reluctant to give her a nappy but am getting very tired of cleaning up poo accidents. She just seems completely unwilling and I can't work out why !

toeragsnotriches · 06/04/2011 18:48

Join away ladies, the more the merrier! I always thought it was the other way around... the poo accidents are soooo much worse. I confess to just chucking the pants away today.

Thanks for the Poo goes to Pooland stuff. I think my friend has used this with her DS1 who has encopri thingy thingy where he won't poo for ages and holds it in and then has a massive explosion.

DS2's nursery think it's the 'safety' of the nappy he likes and the security that comes with knowing that when a nappy's there there will be no accidents. But he knows it's coming, then just does it in his pants and gets upset - where's the logic, todder???

Oh and thanks for the name compliment Smile

Logic? Toddler?! Not compatible!!

Actually the not knowing why is the hardest bit for me - is she scared/stubborn/worried/what?!! I felt if I knew I could try to help in some way, but she won't or can't explain. Just hides and poos, aaaaaargh.

Oh and won't wear a nappy so technically I shouldn't be here Blush

toeragsnotriches · 07/04/2011 19:22

We've had a 'lost poo' incident today. He comes into the kitchen, looking sad, says 'Sorry mummy, done poo.' and scarpers to play in the garden. I catch him, clean him up (was naked anyway, some bonus) but I can't track down the poo! DS1 helps and by process of elimination we work out it's somewhere in the lounge. Eventually we find it in the middle of a load of playmobil. Which I still have to wash.

Just had to share. Blush

lol!@toerag

My 2.5 yr old has been totally dry during the day for a month and just seemed to take to it like a duck to water. But also only poos in a pull up nappy, and will scream and cry if I even suggest using the potty or toilet to poo.

Have also tried praise, encouragement, rewards, talking about poo and what big boys and girls do, even taking her to the bloody loo with me when I do a poo .

Will try this Pooland malarkey next Grin

Caz10 · 07/04/2011 21:16

Have to say, DD loves Pooland but it hasn't made a blind bit of difference, sorry!!

She did sit on the potty today and do a poo but ONLY because I was right next to her and saw the poo faces starting - had I not been there it would have been in the pants again...as were the FOUR mini poos before that Sad

Caz10 · 07/04/2011 21:17

Ps Lol to the lost poo!!!

maxmissie · 07/04/2011 21:22

I sort of had this issue with my dd when she was potty training - she would go on potty/loo for a wee but would insist on doing her poos in her knickers at the bottom of the garden! Really quite grim! In the end I used a combination of special knickers i.e ones with her favourite characters on and stickers as a reward if she did a poo on the potty/loo and after a week or so generally did the trick.

WipsGlitter · 07/04/2011 21:34

Marking here too. My DS does lots of "smudges" and then when he gets a nappy at bedtime a massive poo. Our patience is really wearing thin.

Caz10 · 07/04/2011 21:48

Has your DS being doing that for a while WipsGlitter? That is what we have at the moment too and I am getting really sick of it, it can be about 6 times a day or more and there is only so much poo you can take.

WipsGlitter · 07/04/2011 21:54

He only seems to need to poo every few days. He's been properly potty trained since end of Jan (wees) but we've only had one poo in the toilet. As someone above said he gets hysterical if you try to put him on the loo.

Caz10 · 07/04/2011 21:56

Oh it is so wearing isn't it? DD is on lactulose at the moment in case the "smudges" are overflow from impacted poo from holding it in. She was a once-a-day pooer until potty training was mentioned so pretty sure it is linked. Bribery not working, poo goes to pooland not working, ignoring it not working...running out of strategies!

girliefriend · 07/04/2011 22:04

Hi I had this issue with my dd and unfort it took a long time to sort out!!!

I would advise lots of fruit and veg to avoid constipation, lots of bribary, putting a nappy inside the potty iyswim?! Then moving onto paper in the potty..........

however in the end with my dd she needed movocol as was holding on so much it made her v constipated which just made the whole problem worse!!!

girliefriend · 07/04/2011 22:07

Should add that within a few days of starting on the movocol she was pooing on the loo!!! However then and now she does like to poo very much in private!!!

toeragsnotriches · 07/04/2011 22:10

Some good ideas here - thanks all! I just need a good night's sleep and lots of coffee to get em going. Although mil looking after DSs tomorrow so maybe he'll do it for her.

Caz10 · 07/04/2011 22:13

I really wish we'd been prescribed Movicol, from what I've read on here it seems to be the most effective option. I think DD would only need to be sucessful at poo-ing a few times to sort it, but until the bloody stuff will come out....!!!

As a minor aside and whine my hands are SO dry from constant washing!!

Malvapoeding · 07/04/2011 22:17

We had this at work (I was a nanny) and started by encouraging him to sit on the potty or loo when he needed a poo still wearing a nappy then one day he asked for a nappy I put it on but had cut a hole in the bottom he didn't see it when I put the nappy on, he pooed and it went into the loo, we made a fuss about his super poo that broke the nappy, the hole got bigger until one day he asked to go and never asked for a nappy. It took about 3 weeks from start to finish and the hardest part was getting him to sit on the loo.

toeragsnotriches · 08/04/2011 07:25

Oh wow that's another brilliant idea! Will have to get my scissors out.
