do you think i need to get him checked out. He drinks alot of cows milk which he loves and doesnt reall like juice. He loves his food but it often seems like it just goes through him. His favourite meal is pasta bake but i can gaurantee the next day his nappy will be a big orange mess

my DD potty trained two days before her 3rd birthday and I honestly thought she was never going to do it. Literally she would just poo in garden as she played, wee on shop floors etc etc She was completely oblivious to what she was meant to be doing and it was stressful at the time. Even sweetie bribery didn't work. She always had loose stools too and I remember thinking that it couldn't have helped. She was def more solid as soon as she was trained.

My advice..You mentioned nappy? Get that nappy off tomorrow and never put one one through the day again - you must!! He really should be learning without one now. DD had no nappy on through the day for 8 weeks before the penny finally dropped.
It was us going on holiday that did it -as we stressed to her that the carpets in our cottage could not have accidents on them! That was it, from that day on (and dry through teh night and never had 1 wet bed). Good luck. He will get there, but I feel your pain!

I would pop to the doctor to reassure yourself, but talking from experience you'll almost certainly be told the same as me. DD (25 months) also has v. loose stools, Doctor isn't at all concerned & when i listed her diet said was due to the amount of Fibre. If still the same in a Year will run checks to ensure absorbing enough.

If his weight is fine & is a normal happy chappy, then don't be worried, but take him to be checked for your own peace of mind.

Hi just a note on the loose stools, my doc said this is quite normal up till about the age of 5 so nothing to worry about. They should gradually get harder as he gets older. My d.s is 3.9 and still has the odd loose stool. Nice...

We trained DS who turned 3 last week when he was 2yrs 10 months.
I was worried about doing poos as he had toddler diahorreah (sp).
Strangly, whilst his poos don't look exactly like mine (sorry TMI!!) they are formed, which they very rarely were in nappies.
He instantly had control and so far have had no poo accidents.
So, my worrying was for nothing!!

Good luck.

DD1 potty trained just shy of her 3rd b'day. I always thought she had really soft stools but realised that it was because the nappy mashed them up that they appeared do soft (sorry if tmi). Took the nappy off, she had one poo accident the following day and that was it - 6 mths ago.

You will get there, I promise. Just choose a time when you don't really need to be too far from home.

Good luck

My son is 2.6. We are nowhere near potty training. I don't know how to start with him. His older sister was trained by now. He won't sit on potty or toilet. When he does his penis sits on his legs so I actually have no idea how this is supposed to work.

temporarystate · 25/02/2011 13:19

MY DS1 is 2.11 and not potty trained. We have started stage 1 of getting him to sit on it before his bath and we are always talking about it when he has his nappy changed.

His poos are NEVER formed, soft or hard, they are always mush so goodness knows what will happen when he does one on the pot.
Also he never tells me before when he wants to go, and most of the time not even after he has been. He is happy to walk around in it until someone smells it, and even then he's not bothered!

So I think Easter half term is the time for us, and in the mean time hope the poo's harden up a bit and the talking develops! wISH ME LUCK!

Noseynoonoo - you need to get DS to sit with his trousers and pants right down to his ankles. His legs need to be a little apart and he has to tuck his penis down between his legs so it is pointing down hold his hand on it whilst he wees.

It's just part of training - men have to handle their penis when they pee - even the grown ups.
