Best protection for bed at night

Hi All

My DD is 3 and has been potty trained since August and picked up really quickly, lucky for us as second one on the way now.

In the beginning of Jan just before bed time we realised that we ran out of nappies and she was already too tired for me to wait for DH to come home and get some more. Then asked her if she wanted to sleep in her big girl pants and she seemed very excited. Luckily I had the pampers bed mats nearby and put one on the bed. Very good thing is when she has an accident we can literally just pull that off and her bed stays dry.

Problem I have now is we bought her a new single bed because she slept in her cotbed with the sides off and this new bed has a lovely thick mattress. For now we kept on the plastic sheet but realised that the reason she wakes up at night is because she sweats because of the plastic underneath her sheets. Last night she had an accident because she fell asleep in the car and therefore did not wee before bed time.

But I now find that the Pampers Bed mats are too small. Luckily matress is still protected because of plastic. But the plastic must come off. Any alternative product I can use to make sure her mattress does not get spoilt, please?

I have a single bed sized waterproof mattress protector from Boots but you can get them from other places too. mine is cotton backed so it isn't too plasticky

Ikea have two different kinds of waterproof, one isn't cotton backed but doesn't seem too plasticky either and is what I've got at the moment, although as it's a bit slippy it can be hard to keep in place when making the bed. The other one, which I haven't seen but looked online, is cotton on top. The problem I have is DD's bed is an odd size, so fitted waterproof sheets are wrong and it's hard to wrap them round properly because of the elastic, but the non-fitted type seem to be just plastic.

Oh just remembered the other alternative is a bed protector from www.thenappylady.co.uk, these are fantastic but expensive.

I still use the Pampers bed mats for my two young children but put them on the other way round! So lengthwise instead of widthways. I have one regular bedwetter and this way has always kept the mattress dry.

Asda bed mats are bigger and half the price.
