long car journey for recently trained DD

We started potty training DD just over two and half weeks ago and it's all going really well. We still have the occasional accident, but basically she has got the idea - accidents are usually because she doesn't give us enough warning, rather than not realising what is going on.

However, next week we have to do a long car journey (probably about 6 hours in total) twice. We would usually stop every 2-3 hours and I can't work out what is the best way of coping with the toilet issue. I would obviously try to persuade DD to go to the loo at every stop, and I could stop more frequentl if necessary, but it still seems highly likely that she would be caught short somewhere half way up the M1.

I was wondering if I should put her in pull-ups so that she doesn't end up sitting in a puddle for most of the journey. But I don't want to undermine the progress she has already made.

Any advice, please???

I wouldn't put her in pull ups as then you're changing the rules that she's just got the hang of & telling her it's okay to wee in her pants sometimes - too confusing! Get a couple of Piddle Pads (v cheap on EBay) to protect the car seat as they're a pain to remove & wash when damp. Also get a Potette filding potty so she can go in the car since my dusghter found laybys terrifying - cats going passed at speed are very noisy & it so much easier than trying to balance someone over a hedge - then you can dispose of the bags at your leisure - DD now almost five & we still have our's in the car for emergencies. Make sure she has enough to drink (as dehydration is no fun over six hours either) but not masses. Be prepared to stop about 20-30 mins after any drink & begin to appreciate Britain's many & varied lay-bys. You'll both be fine.

We did this last year with dd2.

She was potty trained about a month before we went on holiday. I put a pullup on her 'just in case'and she did a 6hour journey stopping once and she was dry the whole journey.

For me it was just piece of mind that she wouldn't be upset if she had an accident.

DH insisted that DD should not go back to wearing nappies and we ended up with a pissy carseat on a 2 day trip home. It was not fun. I would explain that as it is a long car journey you are putting on a pull up 'just in case'.
Even if they do tell you they need a wee on a long journey you can't always just pull over in time.
