Ds is 16 months old and we have a new baby due in the late summer so we are hoping to be as pro-active as possible wrt potty training and get the worst behind us before chaos descends once more!

Bought potty today and put it upstairs to Introduce him to it. He refused to sit on it, cried when I put him on it, peed on the floor and is now carrying it round his bedroom Grin any tips? Or should I just leave it lying about to get him used to it to start with and try putting him on it before his bath e.t.c.

Definitely let him get used to seeing it around.

But I wouldn't be trying to train him before he's ready to, though. 16 months seems very early imo. Why not wait until he shows signs of being ready to potty train, rather than when it suits you? Sorry if that comes across as sounding harsh, but it will just make things more stressful (for you as well as he) in the long run, and you don't need that hassle when you are heavily pregnant or coping with a toddler and a newborn. Grin

Changing two sets of nappies is easier than running round picking up poos from the floor whilst the littlest one wails penetratingly for you, I'm sure...

Haha you do have a point about the happier! Was told by HV (I know, I know!) that around 18months was a good time to start so thought I'd get us a little prepared and keep my fingers crossed!
He isn't really showing much sign of readiness yet, although I do think he knows when he is going and always pees as soon as his nappy comes off. Perhaps I'll just leave it to lurk around and wait for something more positive from him! Thanks for replying!
