Hi everyone! i have a 4 year old son who is completely out of nappies during the day but is still in nappies at night. i have tried night time training but he seems totally unready. i have tried to restrict his drinks in the evening, i have taken him to the toilet before he goes to bed and i have even tried to wake him up during the night. he seems to be a very deep sleeper and when he wakes up he is drenched. is it normal for a child to still be in nappies at 4 years old or am i doing something wrong? any suggestions???????????

Don't panic my DS is 4 yrs 7 months and is dry in the day (from 3 years) and still in night time pull ups. So that's at least one more Grin

I have been told GPs aren't interested in doing any tests until they are 7 years old.

Pull ups are soaked in the morning at the moment so I am not worrying about it at all personally, my DS obviously isn't ready yet.

It's incredibly normal for a 4 year old not to be dry at night. You can't "train" a child at night time, you have to wait until their body makes enough of the hormone to wake them for a wee. You've a while before you need to even think about worrying. My daughter stopped wetting at age 7.

Me toooo!
My dd is 4yrs 2 months, and although dry in the day since 2.5, clueless at night.
Still a soaking nappy every morning.

Im not worried...

I can remember thinking my ds had somethng wrong with him but then, suddenly he was dry.

Never looked back.

He was dry at night when he started school (4 years and 2 weeks) but many of the lads in his class were not and they were older than him as he has a late birthday.

One of the Mums went to the Gp and was told that a health visitor would not even want to know until the child was 7 and it is quite normal.

Don't worry. Keep trying and be prepared to do a lot of washing.

When it is all over you will wonder what the fuss was about - I know I did.

My son was exactly the same, so don't worry! He suddenly started having dry nappies in November (at 4.6) and has been out of nappies since Xmas with no wet beds since.

I agree not to worry. I have a nearly 8 year old who really wants to be out of nappies but we've tried and he just doesn't wake up (his best friend has stayed overnight and is also in pull ups). We'll be making an appointment to chat to the GP or HV soon.

My ds2 started potty training nearly 2 weeks ago (aged 2.6) and he's taken to it straight away and even had a totally dry night last night. Nothing to do with how we've dealt with it, just ds2 seems to have the ability to hold on unlike ds1. I certainly wouldn't worry for now :)
