Day 6 and we've made some progress. DS is now doing both number ones and twos in the toilet with no accidents in the last couple of days.
We've gently tried to encourage him to stand to wee but he doesn't want to.
I don't want to push him and he does watch DH going to the loo.
Any tips how to make this graduation?

Thanks!

Mads

would he aim for cheerios/other cereal that is easy to flush away?

Seona1973 · 31/12/2010 20:21

what age is he though and is he tall enough to get his willy over the rim? Ds took quite a while to be able to stand and pee as he just wasnt tall enough especially out and about and at public toilets. I had to strip him from the waist down to sit down for a pee as otherwise the pee went everywhere.

He's probably only tall enough on a step, so out and about standing may be tricky.
Thought about the cheerios trick, but not sure he really understands what he needs to do Hmm

Not a great time of year - ds used to love watering plants. What does he do if he's in the park and needs a wee?? Trying whipping trousers down and giving a tree a drink for practice. Also, a ping pong ball in the toilet might encourage him: they even sell them with faces on to aim at...

I'd leave him to sit down for now if it's easier, it's still early days in your potty training and you don't want to introduce extra complications.

However my four-year-old still doesn't like standing up to wee so you might not want to take my advice.

You are mad - boys don't need to stand to wee until they are at least 30 - they have terrible aim and you'll spend the rest of your life clearing up puddles of piddle!

I agree with Alarka, i wouldn't rush the standing up, almost all the boys (nursery) i have looked after, were stilling wee-ing sitting down, till they left for school.

DS stopped wearing nappies in early Nov and I decided to try to get him to do "big boy wees" standing up over the weekend. What a nightmare - it goes everywhere -up the walls, on the floor.............. DH seems to be able to get him to do it in the toilet very successfully - maybe its a man thing to teach them! I've happily gone back to "sitting down wees".
