Hello

well the title says it all. For the last month or so my little girl has been weeing after I take her nappy off when she gets undressed for the day. Not every evening but most evenings. So I got a potty and put it in the bathroom and didn't make a fuss when she weed on the floor, I just wanted to show her the potty really. Then last week she sat on it and weed and I probably went over the top with praise. Tonight she crawled away and weed and pooed in the hallway and i reacted badly I am ashamed to say, I was just really shocked, it is the first time she has ever pooed anywhere other than her nappy.

Anyway...bottom line is that I have no idea what to do. Is it too soon to potty train? If so what do I do about the weeing when the nappy comes off? I am in no rush to potty train her, I am very happy to wait I just really have no idea what I am doing.

use the nappies that attach around their waist rather than the pull ups, put clean nappy under her before you open the dirty one and lift her bum up as you remove the dirty nappy so if she wees she does so on the clean nappy and if she doesnt you get a new clean nappy on her in record time...

And changer her in the loo and close the door.

It is a phase and will pass...

I'd say it was to soon.

Keep the potty about and let her use it if she wants but don't go ott if she doesn't.

DS pooed in the bath lastnight for the first time - he's 20 months and poo's on the floor about once a week given the opportunity!

hello

sorry dinky, I didn't explain very well...it is when we are in the bathroom waiting for the bath to fill up, cleaning teeth, that sort of thing. i usually get her kit off then we clean teeth and she plays a bit to give her nappy free time. The door is usually shut but today I left ajar and she was off!

I use the nappies that close at the side anyway, haven't even thought about getting pullups, really haven't been thinking about her toileting at all really jsut been on autopilot.

Not too soon to potty train. Though training is probably not the right word because it is unlikely she will be independant any time soon. However she certainly seems to have some control, so try and go with it, rather than training her to do her business in her nappy (then having to untrain that later)

Just carry on as you have. Keep a potty around. Let her use it if she wants. Don't over-praise and certainly don't react negatively to accidents or refusals to use potty (I know this is hard).

It is a phase - make the most of it Smile

The running water is probably giving her the cue. I'd keep the nappy on till the last minute if I were you if its bothering you. If it isnt, just close the door and let her run around. You can put a potty in the loo and she might play with it...

thank you. We live in an unrenovated dump so I don't care a jot when she wees or whatever on the floor... :-) I just don't have a clue about potty training, it just seems to have crept up on me and I realise that i haven't read up on in or anything.

I tried her on a little seat on the toilet and she just looked a little freaked out by it so thought I would stick to the potty for now.

I like to give her naked time so I will continue...I am just mad at myself for reacting negatively when she pooed on the carpet today because she has never even seen poo before, she was a little shocked herself

thanks for the advice everyone.
