Yesterday, at the nursery they told me they think my 2 year and 4 month old boy is ready. We have been putting him every afernoon on the potty and sometimes he did a wee. Now monday i'd like to start. Should i just put him in pants and that's it? how often should i sit him on the potty?

Thanks so much xx

Have they told you at the nursery why they think he's ready, eg he's saying that he has done a wee/needs one, is taking an interest etc?

Every child is different but it seems that boys start later than girls - my two DSs were nearly three when they were potty trained. We talked about it a lot before hand, went and chose a potty and big boy pants together, and then I cancelled all appointments for a week and just went for it! Grin We stayed in a lot, watched lots of DVDs and there was also some bribing with chocolate buttons to get them to try sitting on the potty!! Basically, a little while after having a drink I'd try to get them to sit on the potty, and keep reminding all the time - it is easy to get distracted and forget! Someone also advised me that it helps to try to get your child to drink as much as poss so they are weeing more often then they get the idea more quickly.

I'm a SAHM so it was easier for me to "control" - hopefully some others will give advice on working with the nursery - I know from friends' experience it can be frustrating if you are trying to potty train but nursery keep putting your DC in nappies etc.

Oh, and get a travel potty for when you are out and about, they are invaluable. I also found cordrouy trousers very useful - they soak up "accidents" better than other trousers Grin

I work 3 days a week, so whilst potty training DS, he was also in nursery half the week - and TBH, I think it helped! - I suppose it depends on the nursery, but we found they actively encouraged the children to potty train, (because once they're trained it's easier for them I think!) and when DS saw the other children using the little toilets, he wanted to have a go too.

Nursery encouraged us to take in lots of spares, so if you're concerned they may revert to nappies, just don't send any in and stock up on lots of cheap underpants and trousers and send him in with a bag full.

At home, we also stayed in a lot for a week or so and I would sit DS on the potty to watch some TV, which helped.

I always put DS on the potty at every nappy change a couple of months before starting properly too.

And, not very helpful for you, but it's easier to start in the summer time, as they can run around outside with no pants on, so less washing!!! - DD is 18 months now and already showing signs of being ready, whereas DS was 3yo, so I'm not sure how to go about it with her, as of course, DS understood that much more that I told him, so that's why I'm following these threads, to pick stuff up myself! good luck.

Thank you to both. So , i guess that from tomorrow we will have to stay at home and put him on the potty every 30 mins?
