Hi, my 2yr old (and 4 months) daughter is doing well at potty training (wees), not well at poos and is still wet at night (wearing a nappy). When and how should you do night potty training? Her keyworker at nursery says train her now by waking up every few hours and taking her to the loo - sounds arduous. Any tips?

I take my son to the loo at night..yes arduous......we don't use night nappies anymore. We have 4 layers of sheets, two normal sheets and two waterproof sheets so that changes caused by wet nights are less work and quicker to change....sorry that doesn't answer your question but thought that I should share that with you

I lift my son and take him to the loo. 2.4 yrs means that your DD is doing well ? Can't remember exactly?

you cant train night dryness. its a hormonal thing, just wait till you get dry nappies in the morning

yes...by the way my DS5yrs still sometimes wets himself

I would get her totally potty trained in the day and able to go reasonable periods in the day before tackling nights. We never lifted DD1 as I wanted her to be able to go the whole night without finding the first night we didnt lift her she wet the bed. We left it intil we had a longish stretch of nights were she was waking with a dry nappy in the morning. You cannot train a child to be dry at night, you will be training her to be woken 2-3 times a night and not to hold until morning which could end up being tiring for you once you stop lifting her and have to change wet sheets because she is used to being lifted.

Never 'trained' my dcs at night. They were potty trained by day and then wore pull ups at night until they were regularly waking up with dry pull ups. Then began to take the pull up out of the equation.

DD was about 3 when she was dry at night, having been day dry from 2.5. DS1 was dry at day at 3.5 (had constipation/training issues). Dry at night at the same time.

And incidentally, think from what I have read that is perfectly normal for children to be in night nappies for quite a time - evidenced by fact that you don't get referrals for bed wetting until at least 5-7 years I think because there is a hormone that is released at some point that enables children to hold urine at night during sleep.

Thanks everyone, think I'll take the path of least resistance and wait for her to get dry on her own! I can see blueberryboy's argument too, need her to be able to go whole nights. My mum (fount of all knowledge) says their kidneys mature and that's when they stop weeing at night..
