There is only one way to do it and that is when he is ready ...

Does he have the language?
Does he show an interest?

I hate to be a doomsayer, but I have learnt from bitter experience that it is no good trying until they are ready - they have the language and show an interest ... sorry Sad

Leave it a few months and try again! Tried DS1 at 2.10, disaster, tried again at 3.2, got it basically straight away.

If he is reluctant he is not ready.

When you say "CLEVER" do you mean this will be helpful as he will easily learn something new?

Thanks for your posts!! He does have good language but I think novelty has worn off. Re the clever statement i mean he just cant be bothered-stickers just not that appealing!

Brains and bowels are different, you know! Clever kids can he 'slow', means nothing. be patient.

I sound like a broken record, but it is THE LAW that you stop wearing nappies during the day once you're three. It is just one of those things that happen, like Christmas or Autumn. Non-negotiable - it's just the way of things. In exchange you get presents/a party.

mrswoodentop · 08/10/2010 22:55

Hassled I did this ,it took another 2 years before he would poo in the loo and we had weeks of wet floors. But I didn't give in .By the next one I had learned ,left it until he wS ready a couple of months after 3 no real problems.Ds3 insisted at 2.2 and was dry in a couple of days.

Moral :one size does not fit all

If you think it's a case of novelty, then try changing the stakes. This www.myweefriend.com/ has been great in our house. Discovery of en suites at grandparents' houses that he didn't know about, and a toilet in a caravan, have also added to the novelty on visits and increased success rate.

Good luck.
