Should we skip the potty?

DS is almost 3, and hates weeing in the potty (poo not even broached yet!). He has a speech delay so I can't figure out what the problem is.
Yesterday he said a couple of times "wee wee potty" which felt like a huge breakthrough, but he sat on it for 2 seconds each time, then went on the floor Confused.
He sometimes successfully uses the toilet when his dad is with him, but I can't get him to sit on it for me at all.
Argh, so hard to know what to do - should I bin the potty and concentrate on the toilet? Maybe we are being too inconsistent?

I did, my DD has never used the potty but will happily go on the toilet. They are not comfortable and DD's knees were too high for her to be comfy at all. I took her with me everytime I went and put her on after, she got it pretty quickly TBH.

Eventually she started saying she needed to go. HTH

Sorry, meant to say try using one of those padded seats for him, it worked for us.

I'd bin it. DD1 used hers a few times to stink out the living room and then spill wee on the carpet on the way to the toilet. With DD2 I decided not to bother and just bought seats to go on the toilet. So far so good.

Our DD loathed the potty with a passion and would only use the toilet. she was also a special seat refuser so often ended up down the toilet. I got her a set from Argos (I think) which was a step, seat and pot (only child you see). Could you get a low step for your DS and ask DH to teach him to stand up and go. A friend encouraged her son by floating pingpong balls down the loo and he had to try to hit them.
