WHAT TO DO? DS PEED IN HIS NEW WELLIES!

Hi all, just looking for a bit of advice:
my beloved DS (just turned 3) has been fully potty trained for quite a while but he's recently started going to a local playgroup part time & has had a lot of 'accidents' there, I think simply due to becoming totally engrossed with playing with all the new toys & other children. I've been washing trousers, sometimes several pairs (!), every day on my return from picking him up, but today his brand new Thomas wellies were in the 'wet bag' too! I didn't show it outwardly but I was mortified as I have no idea how to clean them. I only have a mini washing machine & I don't think it would withstand having a pair of boots bashing around the drum, even wrapped in a pillowcase or similar. Anyway, I just can't take the risk of it breaking down. Someone please help as they're already starting to smell bad & there's rain forecast over the next few days here... I don't have any spare money to buy him a new pair & he absolutely loves them (& it would be wasteful to do that anyway). I'm assuming there must be an effective way of cleaning them, I just don't know what it is!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer tips!
Xx

Just soak them in some hot soapy water I would think - maybe use washing up liquid with anti-bac in it?

Then put them somewhere warm to dry out and they'll be fine.

id spray with deoderant and put some talc in, maybe some zoflora or sommat

suzikettles · 27/09/2010 23:52

Well they're mainly plastic aren't they so the wee will only have soaked into the lining which is very thin.

Maybe fill each boot with hot water and detergent, leave for 5 mins and then rinse, drain upside down for a while and then stuff with newspaper right into the toes to dry out properly.

Oh and ds has just had a summer of peeing in his shoes (damn shorts Hmm)so you're not alone... I just chuck them in the washing machine and they - and the machine - have always been fine.

Thanks everyone, that was fast!
I do want to wash them rather than mask the smell with deodorant but because they're rubber I wouldn't put them near a heater or anything to dry afterwards & time is not on my side given the forecast & the "on/off", "will it/won't it?" grey sky days of late!
I went 20 years (i.e. all my adult life !) without a washing machine & was gifted one by my practical-thinking Gran a few months ago, which with a mud-loving, dirt-seeking whirlwind of a boy like mine has been an absolute Godsend. If it broke or got damaged I would feel terrible/ungrateful of her generosity (as well as go round the twist buried in a mountain of filthy laundry!).
Don't you think Zoflora would be a bit too strong? You have to be careful what you put on rubber...

You know, I wouldn't even bother with disinfectant. I think as long as you're using hot soapy water that will do it.

And as far as drying time goes, we were forever getting water over the top of our wellies in puddles when we were kids. Stuffed with newspaper and put in the airing cupboard they were usually dry by morning.

suzikettles · 28/09/2010 00:21

Oh, and wellies are £3 in Asda, Tesco etc. Never does any harm to have a spare set Smile

AnyFuleKno · 28/09/2010 00:46

yeh wellies dry quickly, just give them a dunk in soapy water and let them dry.

THANK YOU! :) XXX
