Apologies if this is blatently obvious but I am a little traumatised from a year ago when potty training DD (now 3.11)!

Ds has just turned 2 and in the past couple of days when having had no nappy on prior to bath, has taken himself off to the potty and done a wee. His nappy is dry at night for almost 12 hours as he also likes to have a wee in potty or on toilet before bed (presumably copying big sister).

This morning I left his nappy off when he got up and he did three wees in the potty, all of his accord...however after breakfast he did a poo on the floor and certainly seemed most surprised. He wears reusable nappies and has not really indicated when he has done a wee or poo in this though is used to watching his poos being flushed away. I just put him on the potty and said "never mind, next time see if you can do a poo on the potty". Not sure what to do next as he is a determined and perceptive lad so am keen not to push anything.

He's a bit little but you could try popping him on the potty a few times a day and reading a book to him.

24 months is not that young for us I guess considering we started when DS was 19 months. He was ready, everyone pressured us and we went for it, even though we weren't prepared. We weren't prepared to spend time solely Potty Training and couldn't take holiday etc. so it went seriously wrong. We only had 1.5 days at home potty training and that was it, out we went, shops, nursery. How foolish we were!

He's turned 2 not long ago and still has accidents whenever he's engrossed doing something or in an unfamiliar environment, especially if I'm not around he tends to panic and wees in his pants. He doesn't seem to mind being in wet pants at all which is frustrating. Tried to put him back in nappies numerous times, strangely, always due to advise from other mums here at MN, but he would just pull them off and tell me that he doesn't like nappies. I'm glad he's done that though, because now thinking back, I'm really pleased as our hectic life and constant travelling means that it has been much easier for us the last few months compared to changing nappies.

Not sure what you mean by being traumatised with your DD (you poor thing!). But it sounds like your DS is doing extremely well and you just got to get yourself mentally ready to potty train him, and probably get him ready to start proper potty training too. According to friends those who have older siblings pick it up really quickly and easily so hopefully that's the case for you.
