Will the accidents ever stop?!!

My son was 2 in may and we have been potty training since then. He is dry at night and has had loads of dry days/weeks BUT with help from me. If we are at home he is great, asks for the toilet for wee's and poo's and almost never has an accident. He is the same if he is out with just me and him so no problems there.

The problem is if he is off playing with one of his friends at our house or theres, unless I take him to the toilet on a regular basis (every 1-2hrs) he will always wet himself. Should I continue to just take him to ensure we have more dry days? Or should I let him have accidents in the hope he learns quicker? When he wets himself I take him to the toilet, and change him, and explain how it would have been quicker if he had just gone for a wee in the first place....is this the right way to react even though he now knows when he needs to wee?

DD1 was a bit like this

Got it quickly but had numerous phases of regression

IME at that age a lot of DC don't actually care if they're wet - it's no big deal to them - and they get distracted. I guess playing is far more interesting than going to the toilet

Have to say of those I know who trained nearer 2 than 3, the majority took longer to get dry and stay dry

IME ignoring was the best way of getting dd into a dry phase, but your ds is still quite young, I think, and probably will need your help with toiletting for a while yet
