It's really getting me down. I'm finding it so hard to keep my patience with DD. In general she's doing really well but at least once a day she'll say she doesn't need to do a wee and then a) climb into our bed and wee (brilliant!) b) climb onto the pram and wee c) wee on the carpet in the living room. Don't want to go back to nappies cos in general she has got the hang of it but I'm so fed up with hosing down the pram/stripping her bed/our bed etc (It's made worse by PMT and the fact that DD2 5MO vomits a couple of times after each feed so I seem to spent my life washing stuff.) How the hell do the rest of you all keep your cool through all this?

well we're just starting our second attempt at potty training today, after a failed and half-arsed try a few months ago. determined to stick with it this time.

total sympathies with the washing! am hoping she keeps pooing in the potty (she did today, hurrah!) as I really don't want to peel pooey trousers off her.

somethinganything · 20/07/2010 16:02

we haven't managed a daytime poo at all since PT began - DD waits for her night-time nappy. Better than poo-smeared trousers though I guess?! Good luck with your second attempt.

how long have you been PTing and how old is DD?

DD turned 3 last month, with her it wasn't a control problem, she was just scared of it! but today we seem to have turned a corner and today she's

...

well I was about to type that she's used the potty 3 times but as I was typing it turned into 4! we're using a reward chart and as she now has 5 stars she is having a bit of chocolate cake. when she gets 15 stars she gets new stickers, and for 30 she can choose a new DVD.

prettypotty · 20/07/2010 17:14

MathsMadMummy Apologies for nosiness but did your DD just cry / run away whenever the possibility of using a potty was mentioned, and how long did you try for during attempt 1?

My DS seems ready in most ways, and definitely has control and doesn't want to wear nappies, but refuses to use the potty (or toilet). Can't work out whether to persevere or not.

MathsMadMummy · 20/07/2010 17:21

first attempt was only a few days. DD just hated the sensation of going (both types) I think - it scared her. she's been capable of holding it for ages, but then she'd be so scared of going that she'd end up wetting anyway. just seem to have turned a corner today.

I think part of the success was that I just accepted that there will be accidents! last time I was so paranoid about it that I think I upset her more. I've been giving her loads to drink so she needs a wee more, and after 2 accidents I think she realised it's much better to go in the potty than to have wet trousers.

StealthPolarBear · 20/07/2010 17:24

if she is sitting doing something (or in pram) put her on one of those disposable cganging mats, pampers are best.

StealthPolarBear · 20/07/2010 17:24

good for car seat too

prettypotty · 20/07/2010 17:26

Hadn't really thought about the sensation of going. I wonder if that's our issue? We're desperately trying to be laid back but not sure how well we're managing it! It's only been a couple of days so maybe we should keep going a bit longer and see how we go. Great to hear that someone with a similar issue seems to be getting there now though, so thanks!

MathsMadMummy · 20/07/2010 17:38

how old is he prettypotty?

I think it can be really scary - you're literally letting go of part of yourself, if you think about it. also in DD's case the few times she managed a poo when younger, it hurt her so that put her off.

OP, I'm also getting better at sorting the laundry out as soon as it's finished, so that the machine is empty and I can just bung wet stuff straight in.

any chance you can keep your bedroom door shut and/or fold the pram up so she can't go there? is there any chance that she's doing this deliberately for attention? kids are strange and annoying like that, she may feel getting you upset is more fun than getting praise for actually using the loo.

prettypotty · 20/07/2010 17:50

MathsMadMummy, he's 2.8. Main reason for starting was his desire to be out of nappies, and he was very positive in principle when we discussed it. Just the reality of it he seems to be hating. He's currently sitting here with DP discussing how he likes his potty, just to be thoroughly contrary!

MathsMadMummy · 20/07/2010 21:28

old enough for a reward chart maybe? I'm sure it's what made the difference with DD. at this rate she'll have a new DVD by the end of the week!

somethinganything · 21/07/2010 11:38

Sorry, only just checked back in.

Stealth where do you get those changing mats from? Our local supermarkets don't seem to sell them and I've just washed down the pram for the fourth time in three days (grrrr...).

MathsMadMummy DD is 2.7 (well, in a few days she will be). This is our second attempt. We seemed to be having a lot of accidents first time around so I decided to wait for a while but then she took the initiative and kept taking off her nappy. We've been giving her a tictac for every wee, which worked a treat and we've only really had one accident a day from day 1 (and she's stopped asking for the tictacs fortunately). BUT she just always wees on the pram - how the hell do I get the message across that it's not for weeing on?! I've tried stars, promises of an ice lolly after dinner if the pram is dry at the end fo the day abut nothing seems to work. Any ideas gratefully received

I get mine from the bigger supermarkets, you're right though they don't seem to be sold everywhere and last time i bought them they had only pampers ones, time before that was only huggies

anna26anna · 21/07/2010 23:50

Hi somethinganything,
Yes, yes. Thoroughly sick of all the washing (we are 3 months with still regular accidents). Particularly tired of the smell of wee on laundry which may have sat for a few hours before washing. Have tiles on ground floor throughout, but carpets upstairs have taken some damage too, and just can't wait to get them properly cleaned. When to risk it though?!

And, I'm really sorry guys, my child has been having accidents for a fucking YEAR.
