Pelvic Issues & Perineal Tear

I’m almost 10 months on from giving birth. I have pelvic floor issues and sex is still quite painful so I booked in with a physio who specialises in pelvic health. She looked at the wound on my perineum and said it didn’t look stitched well and there was a hole in the middle of the scar where it looked like it hadn’t been stitched properly or at all. She said it might need surgery to rectify and has referred me to the hospital I gave birth in.

In one way I’m relieved because I’ve had friends who had worse births than me telling me I can’t be that bad as my labour wasn’t as traumatic as theirs. So I thought I was making a big deal of things. But I’m also very sad because I can’t be intimate with my husband and I wanted to start trying for another baby later this year as age isn’t on my side.

Just wondering has anybody else had anything similar happen and how it turned out. Did you go on to have other children afterwards? Thanks

Anyone? I’d be interested in hearing about recovering from difficult births. I feel like I’m never going to feel myself again.

After I gave birth I had a second degree tear that was stitched. Things did NOT feel right down there and at my six week follow up I was told I had granular scar tissue and pelvic organ prolapse. The scar tissue was burned away and didn’t return, and I had five sessions with a pelvic floor physical therapist who helped me to mostly reverse the symptoms of the prolapse and desensitize the extremely sensitive tissue around my genitals. After about two months of treatment and at home exercises my symptoms were mostly gone. I wish you the best on your healing journey.
