Granulation?

I’m 6 months postpartum. I had a vaginal birth with episiotomy.

I went to a private physio as I was experiencing urinary urgency but also bleeding after pelvic floor exercises. The bleeding was noticed when wiping. A few spots.

I had assumed it was the scar tissue. Physio discovered it was not the scar. She referred to GP.

The GP examined and it hurt. The bleeding has picked up since this examination to the extent that has been blood in my pants.

The GP thought it was “granulation” and said she would refer me to gynaecology and to expect a letter. I was honestly in so much pain after the examination I was slightly shocked and didn’t ask enough questions. Cauterising was mentioned and I think this short circuited my brain! The GP also asked if I was sexual active. I’m coalescing, so no. She said it would likely be extremely painful to have penetrative sex, which from her examination, I believe!

Does anyone have any experience with granulation? What will gynaecology likely do? Is it urgent or will I be on a long waiting list? Is there any hope for having sex? I’d like to start TTC next January.

I had granulation for different reasons to yours. I had a vaginal hysterectomy and when I went back for a check up with the consultant she said there was some granulation which made sense as I had experienced a little discomfort when resuming sex (after full recovery obviously). I wasn't even aware she was about to treat it and after a quick stinging sensation, which really wasn't bad, it was done. They use silver nitrate to cauterise it away. In my case it was incredibly quick and a sting rather than a pain. I think the procedure sounds worse than the reality and maybe take a couple of Nurofen beforehand.
