Postpartum clitoral pain when standing after forceps birth

Hi all,

First of all, I’ve had my midwife appointment today and she has referred me to a pelvic health professional but I wanted to know if anyone else had had a similar experience postpartum as I’m starting to feel a little lonely with it and no one else I’ve spoke to seems to have experienced anything similar.

I’m 3 & 1/2 weeks postpartum and since about 1 week pp I’ve been experiencing this weird pain in my clit/urethra area. It occurs mostly when I change position, so it’s always worse when I wake in the morning and stand up out of bed or sometimes when I stand up off the sofa. The area also feels slightly sore to the touch.
The pain feels like an intense rush of blood to the area and like it’s about to explode for a few seconds and then it passes, it’s so weird.
it doesn’t hurt when I wee or anything.

When it started, it was almost everytime I changed position but it has become slightly less frequent overtime but the last couple of days it’s ramped up a little again.

I had a vaginal birth, pushing for 2 & 1/2 - 3 hours and then forceps and episiotomy.

Looking for some hope!!!

Hi OP, have you had your referral yet?

I had a forceps birth 17 months ago now, I was pushing for around 3 hours and baby had changed position back to back. She got stuck in a weird position in the birth canal so I was taken to theatre. I had an episotomy and also suffered a 3rd degree tear. Honestly for what feels like a while afterwards I had similar to what you describe, like even just lightly touching the area would bring this rush of pain. Eventually I just healed and apart from long term damage in other ways (I have reduced muscle control in that area now) I have no pain.

3 weeks is still very early and you had a traumatic birth, in time it will likely heal - do you have an follow up appointment with the gyno at 12 weeks PP?

Hiya,

Thanks for your response and apologies for my late one! I wasn’t watching this thread as no one commented!
Im now 10 weeks PP. I saw the pelvic specialist midwife at around 5 weeks and she had a check and then referred me to a pelvic physiotherapist for a suspected prolapse which I actually have my appointment for this morning! She said she couldn’t tell if I had a prolapse or not and I’d I did it must be quite minimal but due to the pain I was getting she wanted me to get a full exam once I was past the 8 week mark.
In regards to the pain I described, I don’t know when it stopped but like you, it just seemed to stop, it must have been my body just healing. I don’t think I’ve had the pain for 4-5 weeks or so now which is great!
It was such a weird pain and I couldn’t find anyone describing anything similar online but I’m glad it seems to have sorted itself out!
