Big baby big toddler?

Continuing from my other post…I ended up having a big baby - the ultrasound was correct. He was born 9lbs. Has anyone else had a 9lb baby and do they continue to grow on the 90th centile until toddler age?
Thank you

I have had 3 large babies 10lb6oz 9lb10oz & 9lb2oz all the same sex, smallest one was born 2 weeks earlier than the other 2.

The middle one was 25th centile by 12 months old and 75th centile height.

I had three large babies. All over 9lb. Their weight didn’t stay at the 90th, but their height did. They are all between 75-98 percentile now over 5 years later.

I had a nine pounder. We expected him to be huge but he's quite small now at 6. He was a chunky toddler though!

My biggest baby 9lb 6, is now a teenager and is almost 6' tall (girl). My smallest baby (7lb 4) is also a teenager and 6'4 (boy)! I think parental height has more influence than birth weight.

DS was 8lb13oz and is now a tallish (75th centile?) but very skinny three year old. The men in both mine and DH’s family tend to be tall and slim/athletic so I think he’ll continue on this trajectory.

I’ve had two large babies - one 9lbs 7, one 9lbs 10. The 9lbs 7 one has been on the 91st percentile for his whole life (including at birth because he was two weeks late). The 9lbs 10 (born early, so super big) one gradually fell through the percentiles and was only a fairly tall (though very fat!) toddler.
He also seems to have some sort of mildly delayed growth pattern (no teeth until after first birthday, didn’t lost first baby tooth until he was 8, and has only lost a handful at 9), very young looking, so still think it’s possible that he might end up being the taller of the two as an adult.

Hmmm my boys yes more so than my girls. Dd was almost 9lb and is now 5ft 7 full height and adult weight of around 9 stone so slim. As a child she was pretty much average height and skinny build.

My boys were chunky babies, solid toddlers and one was a tall and chunky lad throughout childhood and into adulthood and the other got skinny and tall around 6/7 and is a tall skinny teen on the 75-91st centile.

My fairly small (7.3) baby has turned in to a big toddler! He was below 50th centile when born I think by up to 91st by 6 months and has stayed there. He’s now almost 2.

i think birth weight can be influenced by whether they were early/late, how well the placenta worked, and drugs given at birth as well as I’m sure other things. I don’t think it necessarily correlates as strongly as you might expect with size later on.

My biggest 10 pound 2 is big. He is a large teen. My smallest 6 pound is one of the tallest in her class but she was tiny until.about 2.

Tootiredcantsleep · 15/02/2026 09:31

One 60th centile baby, now 9 and 60th centile for height (but very slim).

One 25th centile baby, now 6 and 2nd centile with considerable effort to stop her dropping further. There are other reasons for her though.

9lbs 4 DS generally stayed between 75th and 99th centiles throughout. He never lost any weight after birth, just rapidly gained! Both parents are fairly tall and he is now 6’2” at 15yo.
