non-reducible umbilical hernia after pregnancy

Hi,

I am 10 weeks postpartum with my first baby, I have just been told by my doctor that I have a non-reducible umbilical hernia.

I have been referred to a specialist but have a 5-6 month wait to see one.

I have been told by my doctor to do no exercise other than walking.

hoping to speak with people who have had the same diagnosis to understand more.

has anyone had the same and had surgery for it or lived with it? I feel worried.

i want one more baby in the future so i don’t know if they will operate.

thank you!

I had this, but a paraumbilical hernia.
it caused me a lot of pain.
While on the wait list to see a surgeon it strangled and I needed emergency surgery. It’s been fixed and I have had no issues since. I’m not sure about further pregnancy’s as I didn’t ask as my family is now complete. Be careful and hopefully you have no issues like I did!

Thank you for replying @Antihistamine62! I really appreciate it, I’m so sorry to hear that your hernia strangled and you needed emergency surgery, I bet that was scary! I’m so glad you are fine now.

I think paraumbilical hernia is similar to what I have, is that where the hernia cannot be pushed back in?

did you receive similar advice as I did with your hernia? As in to not exercise or do weight training in the gym?

if you don’t mind me asking was there anything that caused the hernia to strangle? I feel really terrified about this happening to me, I know how serious it can be.

think you so much, I really appreciate your help and advice!

a paraumbilical is just at the side of the bellybutton so it’s just slightly aside from yours.
yes I was advised to take it easy while waiting on surgical input.
i was walking upstairs with the baby when I felt an intense pain. I went up and lay in bed and tried to move it about to help ease the pain but nothing worked and I went to hospital but in hindsight there were some warning signs like increasing pain at the area and just finding myself subconsciously being more careful with bending etc.
im not sure if you know what your hernia consists of but mine was bowel and I made sure that I didn’t get constipated as there was a direct link between my pain and bowels not moving every day.
the likelihood is you’ll have no complications get surgery and be fine. I just have shit luck.
The joys of having multiple large babies back to back for me and looking like I was about to birth a baby elephant 🤣
