Digestive issues 3 months post c section

Hi everyone,

I’m just looking for some reassurance or shared experiences really. I’m 3 months postpartum, had a c-section, and I’m breastfeeding. Over the last few weeks I’ve suddenly started having quite a few digestive issues and it’s really starting to get me down.

I’m struggling with:

  • Constipation (can go a few days without a poo)
  • Trapped wind / difficulty burping
  • Feeling bloated even after small meals or drinks
  • Reflux/heartburn that I didn’t really have before

This has all come on recently rather than straight after birth, which is what’s worrying me a bit. I’m trying to drink lots of water because of breastfeeding, but it still feels like my digestion just isn’t moving properly.

Has anyone else experienced this around the 3-month mark, especially after a c-section or while breastfeeding? Did it settle on its own or did anything help (diet changes, supplements, GP advice)?

I think part of it might be hormones, lack of sleep, or my body still recovering, but it’s hard not to overthink when it’s uncomfortable every day.

Would really appreciate hearing if this sounds familiar to anyone. Thanks in advance 💛

Hi! I had a c section earlier and struggled with this at the beginning, it was resolved by 8 weeks. I wonder, any chance you could be pregnant again?

Thank you for replying to my thread. I think there might be possibility I’m pregnant as I haven’t been consistent with taking the pill and I’m still on the waiting list for the implant. I’ll have to do a test. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this. Thank you 💕

Yes but then my scar adhered to my bowel and I had sub acute bowel obstruction. For this reason I would never ever recommend a c section (mine wasn’t optional at all) as unfortunately bowel issues are common.

I completely agree with you! I had a c section because my baby was breach. It’s probably the worst thing that’s happened to me.The aftermath and recovery was horrible. Hope you’re doing okay now xx

sorry for TMI but honestly I have the worst farts for the first 6 months pp every time. Mixed in with constipation. You should still mention to GP but i do think it takes the body a while to adjust after pregnancy. Natural birth twice.

Just a thought, did your baby pass meconium before delivery? I had to have anti-biotics post section, due to meconium. Which killed off my figestive microbiome. And I've had IBS-C ever sincd

Me too!! I’ll definitely have to mention that to GP. I did a pregnancy test yesterday not pregnant. I’ve ordered probiotics I’m hoping it’ll work xx

@lo1222 hi, did you ever find out the cause of this and has it resolved for you now? I'm experiencing exactly the same 3 months post ELCS, couldn't believe it when I saw your post which was identical! X
