Is the hair loss in the photo normal PP hair loss?! This happens during every hair wash which is 2-3 times per week, this isn’t including all the hairs that end up in the bath, down my back, wrapped round my hands etc 🤢 this has been ongoing for about a month now and I am starting to really worry about the amount I am loosing!

I was exactly the same after all 3 pregnancies OP but it stopped eventually.

Interestingly the hair loss didn't start until around 3 months PP.

I think that was the time I'd stopped taking iron tablets so not sure if it was that?

Either way, it'll stop eventually Flowers

Biosblbay · 28/11/2025 23:23

@PatThePenguin definitely nothing to do with you stopping iron tablets! I don’t take any vitamins and my hair loss started at 4 months PP! I thought I had dodged it but NOPE!

Ahh it's weird isn't it?

I think it lasted until I was about a year PP and then by the time it all grew back, I was pregnant again!

Yes totally normal! I had to put mine in a plait every night at one stage or my pillow would be completely covered in hair every morning.
This stage should only last a few weeks

Biosblbay · 28/11/2025 23:59

@PatThePenguin that happened to me! I had my son September 2022, got pregnant again in October 2024 😂 why do we do it to ourselves! Although second time round the hair loss has been so much worse! Was that the same for you?

@user2848502016 it’s been around 4 weeks now. It’s so scary isn’t it! It’s clumps during a wash and I’m finding hair all over my clothes, all over the house etc more than ever!

I think it was evenly bad for all 3 pregnancies to be fair.

The eldest two DC used to find hairs in their packed lunch boxes and one said it was 'strangely comforting'! 🤣🤣

Mine was like that with my daughter. With my son I kept taking my pregnacare vitamins, extra biotin and used shampoo with biotin in and lost very little hair. I really think all the vitamins helped.

I’d get your thyroid checked. Pregnancy can affect your thyroid function that in turn can cause hair loss. A thyroid condition called postpartum thyroiditis can lead to hair loss after pregnancy, among other symptoms. Postpartum thyroiditis is an inflammation of the thyroid, causing the thyroid hormone to 'leak' out of the gland.

justasking111 · 29/11/2025 00:35

Please get your bloods checked.

Yes! Please do as this poster suggested. I had awful hair loss around 3 months after my DS was born. I had other symptoms which I saw my GP for and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. Took a few months to get my medication right but now I don’t freak out completely when I wash my hair x

@SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice@justasking111@cauliflowercheeseplease just out of curiosity how serious is an under active thyroid and what would they give me to help this? I’ve just googled the symptoms and I have most if not all symptoms! I’ve also just posted about unexplained weigh gain after pregnancy and I don’t eat much at all! That might explain it!

Not sure, but I think you just take a daily medication to replace the missing hormones. As far as I know it’s not super serious like asthma- not life threatening. But I am not a doctor!,, I just have heard that it’s fairly easy to treat.

If left untreated, it can cause neurological issues, metabolic issues and fertility issues. It can also cause swelling of the thyroid gland which can cause difficulties in swallowing and breathing. For such a small gland it can cause a lot of health issues! As well as the obvious weight gain and hair and skin issues.

get yourself checked out 🩷

Biosblbay · 02/12/2025 20:10

@cauliflowercheeseplease could this also be the reason my psoriasis has come back?! I will get a doctors appointment asap!

I really wouldn’t want to say as I’m not clinical, I’m just re feeding info my GP gave me when I was diagnosed as I asked if medication really was necessary. Underactive can show the same signs as overactive too. I’m not sure how they treat over but I’m on levothyroxene for my underactive xx

neleh87 · 02/12/2025 20:28

Mine was much worse than that to be honest with both DC. Hairdresser told me it's because we don't shed hair during pregnancy so there's a lot more to lose. I'm about 7 months pp and the hair loss has stopped. Haven't used any special vitamins or shampoo.
