Urgency to week after csection

Hi all,

Im 7 weeks postpartum and I had a relatively issue free csection

I found early October that when I went for a wee I felt likeni could go for a wee almost straight after...I felt that for about a week or so and it disappeared or at least I stopped noticing it.

I've noticed that feeling of needing a wee straight after going to the loo is back again and was worse yesterday. I had to go within 15mins but could hold on as long as 3.5hours. I have been drinking a lot of water so I wonder if I'm just drinking a lot...my wee is clear/pale yellow

I don't have any UTI symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this?

Definitely speak with a gynecologist or GP. Doesn't sound like anything sinister from what you've said but they can help you identify the cause and what needs to be done, because one root cause might require you to do one thing to improve it, whereas another root cause might require you to do pretty much the opposite!

But one small thing you can do in the meantime is after every time you do a wee, stand up for 5 seconds, then sit down again to do another wee - this will make sure the bladder is totally empty.

Thanks for replying @Newparent101

I tried to book an appointment with the GP but instead was booked in witht the nurse for a urine test which doesn't seem to show anything. I've got my 8 week check tomorrow and I'll raise this but I'm not sure how they can help me. I'm also going to book a Mummy MOT to check for prolapse.

Thanks for the tip. I've ended up staying on the loo for longer and doing some breathing which most of the time does release some wee

Last night was frustrating as I woke up needing a wee, and when the baby slept I couldn't sleep because of the feeling of needing a wee. I can usually distract myself during the day and it's not a sudden urge but always a feeling of 'I could go again' when I'm washing my hands after a wee. Most of the time I can wait at least 1/1.5hrs or a bit longer

It's driving me mad and I'm so scared this is how things will be now. I wasn't expecting this as I had none of these issues with my 1st csection

I've been googling trying to find people who have gone through similar things praying it can be fixed

During a C section, all of your internal organs will have been moved gently or otherwise to get the baby out. It is entirely possible that your bladder has been bruised (as mine was). Add to that the general loss of sensation in your abdomen thanks to cutting through so many layers of skin/fat/muscle etc and you will be more numb than before anyway. Its wise to ask at your 8 week check but may just need time to resolve.
My youngest C section baby is now 25 and I have a return to the symptoms you are describing but mine are cause I'm getting old! I find that doing a little jig on the loo after a wee but before standing will often make any residue urine in the bladder come out thus reducing the feeling of needing to pee again after 5 minutes!.

Thanks for the reassurance @blobby10 I have been so anxious and my husband also keeps saying it will probably resolve itself. Csection recovery is so tough and this on top has broken me a bit

Sorry I don't think the last message posted. Agree with blobby10, either do a jiggle on the seat or stand up for 5 seconds and then sit down again. The reason is that if the problem is due to "incomplete bladder emptying" thats usually because the last bit of wee gets trapped in the bladder, so if you stand up or jiggle it moves that last bit of wee back to the bottom of the bladder so that you can pee it out straightaway - sitting still on the toilet for ages wouldn't fix it because you need to move the bladder to get that last bit of wee to fall to the bottom of the bladder with the help of gravity. Also explains why breathing exercises may have helped - that may have jiggled the bladder to move that last bit of wee. Agree a urine dip wouldn't give you the answer - a urine dip looks for infection, but this sounds like a mechanical cause, can you ask again to see a GP? Luckily most wee problems at this age are resolvable or at the very least can be drastically improved with training exercises, it's just finding out what the problem is so that you can get the right solution. Hadn't heard about the bruised bladder thing before but that makes a lot of sense, hopefully that's it and it'll just go away on its own in time. Sending you a big hug!
