Rectal / Anal prolapse - deeply worried

Hello, I have a long history of severe constipation and have had three children in five years. During my recent pregnancy I developed external haemorrhoids, which caused unbearable pain post birth as they were thrombosed.

it took a couple of weeks for the thrombosed external haemorrhoids to reduce. Then a few weeks later I was straining on the loo and, to my horror, noticed a prolapse.

I think I now have a combination of skin tags / excess skin left over from the haemorrhoids and a prolapse that is only noticeable when bearing down / straining.

I know that long term I will suffer from constipation again, and I’m absolutely terrified. Found myself wishing i had a vaginal prolapse, as somehow it feels less embarrassing and more treatable.

I would love anyone’s advice / experience on how to deal with it long term, is there any surgery or treatment that can reverse what is going on? I think about it all the time and I’m just really scared yhag what the future has in store for me with this problem :(

Speak to your doctor. And keep seeing them if they try to brush you off (though they shouldn't!) See if you can get a referral to a physiotherapist that deals specifically with women's health and prolapse, there are exercises you can do (not just kegels!!) that will help you to build up your pelvic floor and your core. Search "holistic core restore" coaches - they can help with this.
make sure you do whatever you can to avoid constipation.
I have a rectocele (where the wall of the anal passage pushes into the vagina) and it's rubbish. but much better since I've focused on good bowel habits and pelvic floor exercises.
yes there is surgery that you can have too.
don't feel shy about advocating for yourself 💕
