Tube removal side effects?

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and have an elective section coming up at 39 weeks. I decided I wanted to get my tubes tied but was informed that they now prefer to remove them. Has anyone had this done and found any side effects at all? Obviously its more permanent that tying so I wanted to hear of some post surgery perspectives. Thanks!

haven’t had them done myself but basically it’ll be much the same in terms of any side effects or extra pain/timing of surgery really (not particularly different from the CS itself).
taking the whole tube has the benefit of reduction in risk of ovarian/tubal cancer long term which in my view can only be a good thing.
also… wouldn’t worry about “more permanent” because both should be considered permanent and you shouldn’t do either if you’re not 100% sure :) there’s probably a lower risk of failure overall but I’m not sure whether anyone has these numbers yet.
personally if I get the chance I’ll have the full removal (salpingectomy).

I can share my experience from a slightly different angle, in case it helps.
I had an ectopic pregnancy and had one tube removed (salpingectomy), so while it wasn’t done at the same time as a c section, I do have experience of tube removal rather than tying.

Obviously the context is different as mine wasn’t elective, but from a surgical point of view I was told that removal is now often preferred because it reduces the risk of future ectopics and has the added benefit of reducing ovarian cancer risk.

It’s a very personal decision though, especially around permanence, so it’s good you’re asking these questions ahead of time.
