Trapped wind agony

Hi all -

Help please! 6 weeks PP today and have a horrendous feeling of trapped wind all through my back and chest. It starts in my lower back and then rises up making me feel so nauseous I was then sick. I had this same feeling around 3 weeks PP. I did have an epidural so feel like it could be that but google says no?!

Rennies aren’t touching it!

Have you ever had any heart problems? I would maybe call 111 for advice.

Buscapan or windease? Rennies are shit for trapped wind

LittleRedYoshi · 13/08/2025 22:12

I had similar and it turned out to be gallbladder attacks (pregnancy can trigger gallstones). Buscopan and very hot baths were the only thing that offered relief.

Keep a record of everything you eat and when this happens. My attacks typically came around 3 hours after eating fatty foods, especially in the evening/at night.

Can you lie on your tummy for a while. I did this post partum and found it helped release the gas and made me much more comfortable

thismumneedssun · 13/08/2025 23:02

Peppermint tea was a saviour for me PP, the only thing that gave a little relief

Thank you all for your suggestions!
Will get to the shops today for buscopan etc.
It woke me up at 3am so have had a very restless night with that and a newborn! I feel very weak/hot now! Will look to get a drs app to discuss gallstones and go from there!
Have never had heart problems and I hope to remain that way!

Rennie deflatine! Different sort of rennie to the standard one, it’s specifically for trapped wind.

PastelCat · 14/08/2025 09:04

I get unbelievably painful trapped gas due to a motility disorder. I was advised to use simethicone (windeze or there are other brands, I use the boots one 125mg.) If you’re suffering badly, I’ve found consistency is key. I take two during each meal. I also avoid high fodmap foods more likely to create gas. Check out low fodmap diet. But I agree re trip to GP in case it’s for eg gallbladder issues.

Rabbitmad89 · 14/08/2025 22:07

Thanks for the further advice!
I got the rennie deflatine which has helped no end. I also done a GP request online and they just said to go to the walk in centre and wait on the day - not ideal with a baby 🙄

I get terrible trapped wind with my gallstones and the only thing that ever touches it is direct heat, such as a hot water bottle, put onto the area. Obviously at this time of year you may need to sit in front of a fan at the same time to try and keep the rest of you cool! Good luck. Trapped wind is absolutely horrendous!

Hi all!
Just an update if anyone is interested 😂
I had a scan today and do in fact have “quite a number of small gallstones” - I do feel rather smug in the sense that I was right and pushed for the scan rather than the trapped nerve nonsense 😅
