Gym - when did you go back after giving birth?

I am 4 weeks PP, I haven’t been gym in a very long time, in fact I haven’t been since before I was pregnant with my first born which was 4 years ago, so I am very unfit at the moment. Before my first baby I was very fit and a size 10, to now having my second child 4 weeks ago and being a size 14!

I am desperate to loose the weight and try and get back to a size 10 by summer next year. Is it still too early to go gym being 4 weeks PP? I am no longer bleeding, no pains, feel very ok in myself but I just feel very down by my weight/ size at the minute

2 years and counting. Probably not what you're looking for Grin

@abathofmilkwithladydi oh god no, definitely can’t wait that long! I’ll be a size 18 by next summer if I don’t join gym soon by the way I am eating at the minute as well 🤭 I’m currently eating to survive but I know I need to get my ass into gear asap!

45 years. I was very fit for all but the last year.

I went back after about 10-12 weeks to personal trainer sessions once a week. I also did Pilates and swimming. I wasn’t running again until about six months and it took a further 12 months to get my distance back.

At 6 weeks.

I went back at 8 weeks after not exercising for the whole pregnancy and before (IVF/permanent nausea and vomiting but quite fit prior) I felt great going back so did a 5k and honestly, my hips and pelvis were agony. I could barely walk by the time I drove home! If you feel good, just don’t do a me and go in too hard. Nothing too high impact so maybe go swimming/cycling/spin and you’ll feel so much better for it in the long run. I’d say from 6m PP I felt like my body felt ‘normal’ IE didn’t feel like I had been pregnant or given birth, I think that’s largely due to going back to exercising though. 9m PP now am lighter than when I got pregnant, just remember slow unsteady wins the race and you’ll get there 💪

Slow unsteady?! 😁

Hi op

I think it really depends on how you feel and how well you know your body. I went back after 3 weeks - I stopped training at 3 months pregnant - I had an awful pregnancy but prior to that I trained 5 days a week - I was very fit and knew my body well. I knew at 3 weeks I’d be okay because I was well educated about how hard to push myself and when to back off. I would say if you feel ready then start with some gentle cardio such as walking on the treadmill or the bike and light weight training if you’ve done it previously. If not it may be worth just having a couple of sessions with a personal trainer so that can show you to ensure you’re not going to do anything to get you injured! Also don’t beat yourself up about being bigger - I put on 4 stone when I was pregnant, couldn’t tell you what size I was as I just carried on wearing my maternity clothes and anything oversized but 18 months on I’m back to my pre pregnancy size 👍🏼
