First period?

I’m currently 6 weeks PP with my second baby. She is breastfed and topped up with a little bit of formula (not every feed/day and only about 1oz). The formula never replaces a feed so she is always BF well within the 3 hours.

we had our 6 week PP check with the GP on tuesday where she pressed hard on my tummy. When I got home I went for a wee and noticed there was a slight amount of brownish blood (almost like the last day of your period) and some period-like cramps. I had been in a rush to get out so hadn’t been to the toilet for a bit before so I don’t actually know if it was there before. Then overnight it stopped, but the next morning I woke up to what I thought was my period as there was a lot of red blood, but then again after a few hours when I changed my pad no more, and no more last night or since either.

with my first I didn’t get my period until about 12 months PP, though she was exclusively BF with no formula until 11 months. I know periods can come back whenever no matter if formula/BF. But is this my period going to come back or from her pressing down?

Dont panic as very well could just be period, a small bit of left over lochia or something else innocent but I would 100% definitely call GP right away and let them know you’ve been bleeding since they palpated your stomach. They’ll want to check it out in case they’ve disturbed a small blood vessel, it’s a tear, retained product of conception, subinvolution of the uterus or an infection.

If you’re not bleeding super heavy or feeling dizzy or faint or having any bad smelling discharge, it’s probably fine 🙏🏻🩷 but look after yourself and get it checked. Your body has just been through something major and totally deserves the attention.

Oh do you think I should phone dr? I wasn’t particularly worried as the bleeding has stopped and hasn’t started since yesterday lunch time I would say, but it was only that it was red blood not old blood

and thank you for your concern. I’m very lucky and I recover from childbirth quickly but I do forget what my body has been through within the last 2/3 years 🙏🏻

Oh I misread — I thought you were still bleeding! That’s good news it’s stopped 😊 But, yes, personally I always err on the side of caution and would let my GP know. They’ll either reassure you it’s fine and that they’re not worried (and since it’s linked to something they did, if they’re not worried you’ll really know it’s fine!) or they’ll double check. Don’t panic though! Just look after yourself because you’re a mum and therefore extremely important 🥰
