Post partum pregnancy bump

I still look pregnant and I know some may think it’s superficial but it’s embarrassing that people think I’m still pregnant and it’s also uncomfortable. I am not sure who I should speak to, gp? It’s not normal to have such a tiny reduction in pregnancy bump after this long.

How long?

Nannyfannybanny · 12/07/2025 15:43

You don't say how long after the birth,3 months,3 years! Did you,are you breastfeeding?

Depends how long ago you had your baby? Do you experience any other issues, like tenderness or a swelling, and were there any complications when giving birth? In that case I’d speak to a GP.

If you’re over a month since giving birth and it really hasn’t shrunk much at all, maybe ask your GP to check it or a pelvic health specialist. Just for peace of mind!

My uterus dropped down fairly quickly because of BFing (I imagine). It maybe took 3 weeks to a month? But I still had that soft jelly tummy feeling for a good few months. I could get my old jeans on but suuuper uncomfortable and my soft still-healing tummy rolled over the top. Now 5 months PP my stomach is close to firm and flat again but certainly not 100% as I have a diastasis recti. This gives my tummy the appearance of sticking out on each side of my belly button + below my bellybutton, due to the dip at my lower midline. It should heal with time, work and patience (and not squashing it into my old jeans!)

Don’t compare yourself to pre-pregnancy 💞to a body that has never hosted life!! Look at your last bump photo. Whenever I’m self conscious about my tummy, I look at videos/photos of myself at 40 weeks. Remembering HOW huge I was — how dramatically my muscles, fascia etc altered to accommodate my baby — the fact I don’t have to tuck my tummy skin into my socks these days is absolutely incredible! 😂
