Positive c-section infection stories? 4wks PP feeling low

I had an amazing birth experience via elective c-section. Recovery has been great too but earlier this week, my wound opened on one end and had pus coming out. The nurse practitioner was sure it’s normal part of the healing process but took a swab anyway. Fast forward to today, I still have pus and the area is red and tender to touch. Lab results came back positive and Im on fluclox antibiotics for x5 days. I am just so down about this and can’t stop crying. The pain is more tender than post-surgery pain I had after CS and DH is going back to work on Monday. I also have a toddler and need my health so I suppose it’s part panic. Any similar experiences? Will I feel better soon? TIA xx

Once I had antibiotics it healed pretty quickly. I’m sure you’ll be fine in a few days. Just be careful.

Also be careful going forward. My son is 3 now so it’s been a while but my scar has reopened twice in the past year. I have no idea why but it’s healed quickly both times and not been infected.

I had to have 2 rounds of antibiotics, but the doctors and nurses were so casual about it, it's very common! I was worried my whole incision would open, I can assure you it will not! It will heal, try not to worry. Mine hasn't reopened and looks really good 10m PP x

I had a long, tiring, stressful labour and then an emergency C-section. My wound got infected: it started weeping and was a bit smelly. I went back to the labour ward and they gave me antibiotics. It cleared up relatively quickly, but it was definitely something I could have done without - especially as (I think) it affected the bacteria in my breast milk and gave my baby reflux 😩
But the most important thing is the antibiotics dealt with it quickly and all turned out good in the end (I have a very healthy 8 year old now!)

@PeachSnail sorry to hear you had to go through an infected wound after dla difficult labour. It’s the last thing you would want. That’s reassuring to know the antibiotics worked very quickly.

The pain currently burns 😭 it’s definitely worse than the surgical recovery for me

My section developed some sort of abscess under it 6 month after the surgery , it popped after a few days reopening the scar but the pain was absolutely worse than the c section !
give a few days at the antibiotics will work their magic

@Florafawnah so sorry to hear about the burning pain - I know it's the last thing you need on top of the recovery from surgery and dealing with a baby and toddler... Everything feels really magnified and intense in these early sleep deprived weeks, but I promise you it will pass.

My wound was also really sore as it was my second emergency C-section and they needed to make the incision on one side extra long as my baby was apparently quite 'wedged' into one side. When I got home, I had searing pain on that side as I walked and I started to worry I'd got lasting nerve damage (went down some nasty Google rabbit holes about that!)... But as I said, all turned out well in the end. No lasting damage. Nicely healed wound.

You just have to weather these few weeks and keep up the pain meds religiously (I set alarms on my phone so I could take my next cycle of paracetamol or ibuprofen on the dot!).

Good luck. Try to enjoy those newborn snuggles while you can ♥️

@sleepandcoffee that sounds horrible, poor you. Did you have to get your abscess drained?
