Do mums no longer get 6 week PP check up?

Just called the health centre to book a 6-8 week check up - which I assumed was for both my baby and myself, but the receptionist told me it’s only for baby.
Ive had post natal hypertension so was hoping to be able to discuss this at the appointment but I guess I’ll have to make a separate appointment 🤷‍♀️
They couldn’t even fit him in until he will be 9 weeks old anyway 😒

I did! It was at the doctor's, was for both of us

I didn't in 2022 - it was just for the baby. I'm pregnant again and interested to see what will happen this time around!

Yes you should, via your GP. Phone up and book it xx

I had one for both mine (2021 and 2025), but it was at 8 weeks along with baby check and first jabs

I’ve never had one on any pregnancy- I do remember with my first baby that I took them for their first vaccinations and they wouldn’t do them because the baby hadn’t had a checkup. Which was really annoying as no one had mentioned anything to me about a checkup. So I booked another appointment for a checkup, they asked me why I’d brought the baby, I said for a checkup as told by the practice nurses, the doctor said it was a waste of time unless I had any concerns which I didn’t. They said it was a repeat of an examination a hospital doctor will have done at the birth. I said I never saw a doctor at the birth either and neither did the baby, and they were not happy about that either and basically implied I was irresponsible for not insisting my baby see a doctor after they were born. And after all that I had to make yet another appointment for the vaccinations and take up three appointments when one would have done, they gave me a side order of new mum guilt, and still no one actually examined the baby.

I never had one for myself.

Wow! This is shocking! I could write a book about the terrible care I’ve received. It’s really been so much stress and upset we don’t need as new mums! 😢

No postnatal offered after my last 4 children.

FTMaz · 18/06/2025 17:36

My son is 18 months - I had one but it was utterly pointless. They just ask how you’re feeling and tried persuading me to go on the pill despite I haven’t been on it for 15 years…very odd.

Answeringaquestiontonight · 18/06/2025 17:40

I had one in 2014 with my first but they weren’t routine when I had my second in 2018.
