C section - infection

c Section ladies

im now 10 days pp. I suspected an infection in scar last week, checked over by doc who said no infection. Went back Thursday and seen a different doc, he said yeah it was an infection but doesn’t look too bad and couldn’t swab as it was dry, this was Thursday afternoon. He prescribed antibiotics that I started straight away.

it’s now Saturday evening, it doesn’t look any better, potentially worse a bit? No temp, eating and drinking fine.

should I be seeing a difference? When did you see a difference with antibiotics working?

My infection was quite bad so might not be the same, but I had to have 2 rounds of antibiotics (2nd round was 8 a day for a week). It was a alot. I had a small hole too from the infection, the infection eventually went but I still needed this hole closed. They put some strips on and it closed (iodine I think). Keep an eye on it and if it gets very obviously worse I would go back

I had an infection in my C section too OP. Also doctors and midwives were saying it was fine. In the end I put really salty warm water on it and that quickly made it open up and drain. When I then had it swabbed it was MRSA courtesy of the useless hospital who did it

Ring for advice but you only started them Thursday, I'd expect to see an improvement by Tuesday and if not go back to the GP.

I had the same. Mine was leaking yellow fluid and pink fluid and STUNK like nothing id smelt before! It was open on one end. I went to the gp who told me it wasn’t infected. U could smell me from the other side of the room so I went back. Got given a ‘just incase’ box of antibiotics and was told again it wasn’t infected. Well all the symptoms stopped after the antibiotics. It started bleeding the following week, I went back to the gp for the 3rd time, was told all is fine. I was so fustrated I spoke to FIL who used to be a paramedic to show him and see what he thought. He told me to call my gp and ask to see a practise nurse as gps are useless with wound care. The nurse said I had severe over granulation so it would bleed. I see her a few times for dressing and it’s all healed nicely now. Panic over! I must add I didn’t see a difference until atleast day 5 of my antibiotic course.

@Lmcxi had a terrible infection after DD was born. It started seeping when I started the antibiotics - i think it was trying to come out. It was so upsetting and went on for a while, I’m sorry you’re going through it too!

That is ridiculous that u had to go through that, so unnecessary! I’m glad u seen a nurse who was capable of helping x

It won't be an emergency, mine was leaking too. Try to keep it clean and aired out as much as possible for now

One of the risk factors for c section is a wound infection and MRSA is rife in UK hospitals.

I had an emergency c section at 32 weeks and it was very traumatic as we were both on deaths door. Acquired an infection which was probably MRSA. Took 6 months to heal. Had to have twice weekly dressing by the nurse and numerous antibiotics They also used silver padding dressings in the deep wound. Not sure if they still use this now.

In our area we have a wound specialist service.

Don't stop getting treatment til you are happy it has gone. Be prepared, it may take a while.
