i have no pain anymore but the red bit sticking out leaves a bit of pinky blood when I dab it. I did see the gp at 3 weeks pp as it smelt and I thought it was infected and it was like that on the left part then too but she didn’t say anything about it (I didn’t have an infection but took a course of antibiotics they gave as a just incase) I’ve never seen anyone’s c section scar have bits hanging out!

Hi that’s over granulation. I would book in with the practice nurse to get it looked at, they can put dressings on it to control that bit of tissue and it will go away. Likely they’ll use a foam dressing but can progress on to others if it’s persistent. Nothing to worry about but does need some intervention!

Agree with first response.

@Btowngirlthank you! I’ll call the gp surgery tomorrow. Is over granulation an infection or just tissue? It does match the description online to be over granulation 😊

No problem!

It’s one of those things that could be associated with an infection, but equally it can happen just by chance. It’s important to keep it as clean and dry as you can (easier said than done at times I know) but the best and most efficient way of reducing it will be via dressings. The practice nurse may give you some to change yourself or may want to see you a few times to dress and assess how it’s doing! It will go away though, it’s just your body has over produced cells during the healing process. Google image will probably show you very similar to yours as well (as well as some extreme cases I’m sure).

I had over granulation on my episiotomy scar and the obstetrician burned it off with a stick of silver nitrate. It didn't hurt and was very quick. Cured it completely and it didn't come back
