How bad was your bladder leakage (running)

Hi all

Just a quick one how bad was your bladder leakage post natal?

I am 11 weeks today and I thought it was improving. I have been for my first run this evening. Only 3.5k. Tmi but I wore a thick maternity pad and it was completly sodden on return. Is this normal? When did you start running after birth? And how is the leakage. I mean I can't even call this leakage it is basicly peeing my pants.

I'm not the embarrassed type I couldn't reallt care less but just wandering if there's a bit of an issue? And if I'm making it worse? Or when I can expect some improvement?

I had forceps and 4th degree tear.

Thank you

Hey, I’m 13 weeks PP. I started running around 9 weeks PP, haven’t had any leaking so I would probably get checked out?? Have you been doing pelvic floor exercises etc? I only had a grade 2 mind!

MyNiftyBear · 04/02/2025 19:51

Agree with PP - you should see a GP and ask for a referral to a physio ASAP as the waiting times can be long. When you try to do pelvic floor exercises can you feel them? Running is quite high impact too. How are things when you walk/jump/cough etc? I didn’t experience any issues with running after birth but lots of people do (I grade 2 tear with first baby and episiotomy with forceps second baby so much less traumatic than you!)

I would stop running until you see someone about this.

It isn't normal, make an appointment with your GP ASAP and do pelvic floor exercises if you can.

Congratulations on your baby!

ScaryM0nster · 04/02/2025 19:54

Stop doing high impact exercise until you improve your pelvic floor.

Thats your warning that it’s weak, and with any other weak muscle you wouldn’t go and work it hard until you’d done the strength recovery stuff.

Pickandmixusername · 04/02/2025 19:57

I'd get that checked out. It isn't something you'd expect or just put up with at 11 weeks pp

I’m a postnatal personal trainer, you need to stop running and get this sorted. Get yourself to a private women’s health physio, nhs wait will be way too long and the treatment won’t be as good.

miamiamia869 · 05/02/2025 06:54

Thank you everyone. I have been doing my pelvic floors since birth when I give him his bottles. I actually do have an appointment with physio next week.

Running is litrerly the only exersise I csn get into. Walking is fine yes but anything like skipping jumping is a no. I also dont have long to get to a toilet once i need to go and coughing gagging ect.

Thanks for all the comments, now I know it deffinatly isn't normal I'll hold of the running and wait for physio.

Thank you

Great that you’ve got a physio appointment lined up.

To get the most out of it you’ll need to let them get hands on / in (literally). Obvious to some but not to others so figure worth the advance warning.

miamiamia869 · 06/02/2025 13:34

Lol @scarym0nster thank you for the warning. I had 3 differant types of induction over 4 days and internal heartrate monitor for baby. I had so many hands and wires in and out I have zero dignity left. They can do as they please if it helps stop being a pee pants lol xx
