Hi,
I had a C-section over two months ago and over the last six weeks I have had a single sided leg pain mostly in my lower right leg and I can sometimes get pins and needles it hurts when I am standing or sitting with my leg down. The pain eases off when I elevate the leg.

I’ve been to the GP twice and feel like I’m being fobbed off like it will just fix itself and was given given ibuprofen gel and told to take ibuprofen tablets as needed.

I also went privately to have a scan for DVT which has come back negative so I can’t understand what could be causing the pain or how to improve.

Can anyone give some guidance / has this happened to anybody before I’m not sure what to do as I’m finding the pain is affecting my daily life as I can’t stand or walk for too long thank you.

I would go to a post natal specialist physio and do the pelvic floor/gentle core exercises they recommend.

I had pain like this which turned out to be sciatica.
It was exactly as you describe- it was a burning pain on sitting or standing or walking and I had pins and needles and it was relieved by my elevating the leg in an odd position slightly to the side. The difference was it was in my thigh.

I was told to take ibuprofen and paracetemol- it took about 6 weeks to go away and I have never had it again. I saw a physio who said it was inflammation of the sciatic nerve. Yours might be a different nerve.

@LuluBlakey1 so glad to hear yours cleared so there could be light at the end of the tunnel. It’s really been afffecting me daily not being able to be active or go for walks without getting this pain so it’s been quite frustrating.
Did you do any exercises to help? Alsohow long did you take ibuprofen for? I only took it for a week as I’m exclusively BF and don’t like to keep taking medication thank uuu x

I took it for about a month as I remember. The whole thing was bizarre. I was teaching a class and felt a bit of a sort of electric shock type twinge. When I went back to my office I couldn't understand what I had done- and the only relief from it was to put my leg sideways on a table 😁

I lay at night on the sofa on my side with my leg up onto the back of the sofa. It just stopped the pain - which was a throbbing pain. Most of the time, it was manageable but I once went into Newcastle and had to get a taxi home. Rest and pain management were the cure. Once it started to improve it improved steadily and quite quickly. I didn't do any exercises- I was at work throughout and just tried to keep as mobile as possible without over-doing it.

I don't know if yours is the same thing but I hope it starts to get better very soon.

I’m 3 months PP and have a similar thing. I saw physio last week who said it’s linked to the sciatic nerve, she told me to incorporate more strength work into my routine (admittedly I’ve stuck to cardio as a comfort zone really). So things like squats, lunges etc. There are some really good PP lower body workouts on YouTube for free!

Thank you all for your replies.
Thank you @Btowngirl I will give this a try from tomorrow admittedly I haven’t been working out or anything as I worried about making the pain worse so will start some gentle at home workouts. Do let me know how you get on with the workouts and if they help or anything else does I’m desperate to get this sorted so I can feel stronger again x
