Intercourse after birth

Has anyone had intercourse around 3 weeks after birth? I feel fine enough to try, and lochia is pretty much finished/barley there. Stitches have healed. I'm aware you are fertile and I'm prepared with contraception. I guess I am second guessing myself as I am aware many people have waited a lot longer.

Do you want to? If you want to and feel healed then I guess go for it but it does risk infection.

I couldn't have imagined anything worse.

The medical advice is 6 weeks.

I wanted to with both of my kids. Tried with the first and it was too painful and I couldn’t tolerate it at all, so
we stopped. The second time it was fine. Just use lots of lube and go very gently whilst being fully prepared that you may have to call it off.

The reason to wait is you have an open wound inside where your placenta was attached and you shouldn't introduce causes of infection. I recently gave birth and was just told NOTHING inside the vagina for 6 weeks. I definitely wanted sex earlier but didn't want to risk it and neither did he.

Yes, was absolutely fine

Completely up to you, what you feel comfortable with. As others have said, medical advice is six weeks, I think we waited seven and I was still very sore and felt bruised, it wasn't enjoyable for me at that point

Branleuse · 18/12/2024 20:57

Yes I had very gentle sex sooner than that.
It was fine. It was me that initiated it.

Where do you get this medical advice from?

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 19/12/2024 18:38

@dillonbarks pretty much any reputable health website?

I tend to stick with the NHS tbh, they don't say that at all.

The medical advice is 6 weeks.

The NHS say you can have sex again as soon as you feel ready and specifically that there is no rule about it. www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/labour-and-birth/after-the-birth/early-days/

I had sex two weeks after DC2 was born. I wanted to, felt fine and enjoyed it.

Completely up to you. If you feel ready then go for it. You can change your mind if it hurts or feels uncomfortable.
