I’m 12 months postpartum and I’m depressed about my changed body. I should feel like a proud mom but I feel like a big fat mess. I was a size 8 pre-pregnancy and I’m now size 12. I wrongly assumed I’d have returned to my former weight and shape but I’m one of the unlucky ones.

It’s so bad that I actually have hardly any photos with my daughter. How can I stop feeling so disgusting and ugly?

I went from a 12 to an 18, so same 'increase m' except your disgusting fat is my goal weight 😂😂 it's tough losing weight after a baby especially if it coincides with hitting your 30s so I feel you. Not much advice , I'm dieting and exercising and its slow

Hi op,

from experience only a few go back without any effort. Have you been exercising and monitoring your food? There is no easy way back after pregnancy. People will tell you to love your new body, but for me I just didn’t and I didn’t want to look like that but you have to put in the work.

I went back to exercising 5 weeks pp with the GP’s sign off indoor rock climbing 3 x a week, yoga, a weekly gym session, and I walk around 10-15k most days carrying my baby in the sling. All that, along with not eating any more than I did pre-pregnancy whilst breastfeeding, got rid of all the weight in around 4 months. I now feel way fitter and slimmer than I was pre-pregnancy. I didn’t consciously do it, I need to exercise for my own sanity and found going out the best way to keep my baby happy too. Although I’ve lost all the weight (and some), I would say I am pretty tired most of the time! I have no idea what your lifestyle is like, but if you do want your old figure back (and honestly there’s no shame in embracing your new body) then maybe think about your diet and exercise levels.
