Anyone had a vaginal repair postpartum?

I'm almost 16 months postpartum, had a vaginal birth, pre-eclampsia, 2nd degree tear, episiotomy, vacuum assisted. A repair was completed immediately after labour however it was not completed by a competent / trained member of staff. I had a horrendous recovery, it took a long time to heal and it's still not right. They've decided to complete another repair procedure to try correct it. Has anyone else gone through this?

I've got surgery booked for a couple of weeks and I'm terrified, they've insisted it has to be under general anesthetic. I'm terrified of GA (scared ill die) but also don't like not knowing what they're doing when I'm under. What if its another untrained individual as the anaesthetist or surgeon? What if they make it worse? I just feel so vulnerable and scared. I haven't been able to speak to the surgeon at all, the pre-op has been all virtual forms.

Hi OP

i had a very similar birth to yours from the sound of it apart from mine ended up with 2 forcep attempts and a haemorrhage. I am completely guessing here but surely the doctor who sews you up there and then is a bit of a ‘jack of all trades’ who just gets the job done, if you’re going back for specific corrective surgery then this must be completed by someone who specialises? Also with regards to your GA fear, I completely get this but would you not get in a car for the same reason? Statistically you have more chance of dying in a road traffic accident than under GA.

Bumping for you.

Do you have the name of the surgeon? If it were me I would look at his credentials. As per PP, corrective surgery should surely be someone who is a specialist in their field.

Can totally appreciate your fear, I hope it goes well for you.

Thank you. I have checked the name of the surgeon and only 2 results on Google, nothing that massively helps at all sadly.

I'm sorry to hear you've gone through something similar. I'm told it was a student doctor who was not qualified and shouldn't have been allowed to do half the things they did, it upsets me as I was so unaware at the time. I'm scared when I go for my repair, due to NHS cuts they're using a lot of trainees, students, to assist with cutting the wait times down and getting people in and out, which I understand, but I am just scared something bad will happen again.

Thank you, you are right, the GA is statistically quite safe. I am hoping they can give me something to relax beforehand as I'll probably be a trembling wreck though!
