Ocd

hi. I hope someone will take the time to answer me. I have a child who’s 9 months who I love more than anything. when I was pregnant I got ocd, and it also continued after the child was born. now I've had it for quite a long time, and everyone around me is tired and fed up with my ocd, especially my husband. I'm now afraid he can't stand it anymore and can't stand being with me anymore. I have therefore decided to start medicine. I've been going to therapy the whole time, but I can't get the ocd under control. I'm so afraid that the medicine won't work because then my husband can't take it anymore. I also don't want to breastfeed and go on medication at the same time, so then I have to stop breastfeeding. this is also sad for me. but the biggest fear is that medicine won't work on my ocd.

Hi,

I am also suffering from OCD. I've had it on and off over the years but it came back before I fell pregnant and I'm still suffering from it now, 3 months post partum.

I've been on sertraline at the lowest dose throughout my pregnancy and after seeing the Dr last week, I have now upped it to 150mg as apparently it needs to be 150-200mg to help with OCD symptoms. I am also breastfeeding but my Dr said it is safe to take it and continue breastfeeding and that sertraline is the safest one to take in pregnancy/breastfeeding.

I think I feel a little better already. I've noticed that things that would have bothered me before upping the dose aren't bothering me as much and it's only been a week and a half since increasing so I'm hoping this will help.

It's a horrible illness and I think it's really hard for others to understand unless they have gone through it. It's also affecting my relationship with my husband so I know exactly how you feel.

I'd recommend getting a face to face appointment with your doctor and discussing starting sertraline. It's also safe whilst breastfeeding so you wouldn't need to stop unless you wanted to. I took sertraline in my first pregnancy too and my DD has no ill effects from it.

Hope this helps a bit x

@Optimistic2021 Thank you very much for answering me and sharing how you are doing. yes, it's a horrible mental illness that's hard to know what it's like. so good to hear that you feel it can have an effect. I also hope that the medicine will work for me, if not I am afraid I will lose my husband.
