Postpartum thyroid / hashimotos

Hello, I am 8 months postpartum! Previously healthy and all my health probs seem to have started after the birth of my second child, I originally posted on here because I was told I may have possible graves disease after an overactive thyroid! I have been on a very long NHS waiting list and my first appointment over the phone Friday eve.
i have had private blood tests done and antibody testing, antibodies are over 1000 and my tsh is over 100 with no t4! I’ve been left over the weekend with the doctor saying we’ll sort out medication next week! I feel really scared because he mentioned if it’s not medicated soon, obviously there’s a chance of coma!! I did also have Covid as well at the time of the test! The call was Very rushed and he says based on the numbers it looks most likely to be Hashimoto, I guess I’m just looking for hope really as I had been told it could resolve and be post partum, but now it seems unlikely?! Anyone else ever had anything like this ? X

I have hashimotos too. My number was way higher and it still would be years before coma stage so try not to worry. Weirdly I got it after covid and have always wondered if that triggered it.
Once you are on meds you’ll feel so much better- it may take a few weeks and blood tests to get the dose just right then a blood test regularly to check numbers. I take mine as soon as I wake at 6.30 (keep it next to my bed) as it should be taken well before a meal or coffee etc.
Don’t worry- and next week you’ll start to feel ok again.

Thank you so much for your reply @liverpoolgal82 yes I cannot wait to get the meds, thank you that is reassuring to hear, I also had Covid before some of these issues started :(
yes hopefully meds work soon!

They will. It wasn’t long before my nails got strong again, hair loss stopped, the exhaustion eased. Keep a regular eye on your blood pressure if you’ve got a machine at home but I got hypertension once I got Hashimoto's. No idea if any connection but a few weeks ago I went into hypertension crisis and am now on blood pressure pills too 🤦‍♀️ Two lifelong meds now.
Once you've been prescribed Levothyroxine ask your gp reception for a medical exemption form. Send it off and all your prescriptions will be free.,

You are not alone OP. My thyroid completely packed up after my third pregnancy. I've lived with being on Levothyroxine for almost 30 years now. It was relatively stable with me taking 100 mg until I hit menopause then it went haywire and I now have to take 225mg every day which is a high dose.

ah sorry to hear you have hypertension now too @liverpoolgal82 thank you I’ve started medication now and feeling less cold already so that’s good

I had the same after pregnancy - was put in tablets after about a year my levels went back to normal and I’m not longer on medication but go for blood tests every 6 months

sorry to hear you had the same! That’s good to hear you were stable on your dose for 30 years thank you , it seems quite daunting at first being told lifelong meds from being perfectly healthy before
I also had a big shock/stress in July and it all started just after in Aug, so i felt quite low thinking this stressful event had possibly triggered off auto immune
but good to hear positive stories thank you ❤️

My thyroid packed in too after my third pregnancy. I’ve been on medication for the same length of time as the PP.
